There has been a lot of discussion lately about what happened with the MayDay update Google has done. Many website owners are experiencing a drop of long tail traffic from 30% to 50%. People are still guessing about what happened and how to solve it.

I’m seeing a drop in search engine traffic of about 5% on one my client sites since the start of May, despite the fact I’m working my ass off on linkbuilding for this particular online property. It’s not a good sign and damn hard for me to justify to my client.

    2. Shaun over at Hobo Web posted on this the other day as well, with a similar take on it. There also seems to be to additional possibilities for the decrease in overall traffic that sites may be seeing lately, a decrease in search volumes online over April and into May together with the new Google Layout which seems to place slightly more emphasis on sponsored results than organic listings. While the decrease in search volumes could simply be Google Insights data not accurately reporting data within that app. Does get you thinking about the list of endless possibilities for the decreases in some verticals

    3. @Barry… only 5%? We are experiencing a drop of ten times the same figure (at least).

When looking on “trends for websites” I see that a lot of competitors are having exactly the same problems.

What enoys me about the situation is not the drop in particular… it is the lack of communication from Google on this. is it a temporary or a permanent downfall, are they still updating stuff or whatsoever (without giving away too much details about the algorithm of course).

I am not afraid of the future… we wil be there anyway… it just enoys me big time.

    6. That could take a while ;) . Just watch it in between sessions ;) . Will take a look at a possible transcript later.

We are working with over 100 clients through our results based performance SEO service. We have not noticed any significant chnages in ranking or traffic. but i agree with the previous post that the new interface is more adwords friendly and therefore probably a boost in Google revenues is likely. but keep on plugging away at link building and on page work.

I’ve also experienced a dip in traffic for most if not all my clients as a result f the panda update, but i’m optomistic i’ll get them ranking with more back links from quality websites.
