Give Your YouTube Channel Some Love, Style It!

youtube_logo

I come across a lot of YouTube channels from companies who have made excellent videos but have not given any thought to the way their channel looks to the rest of the world. This is something which is actually quite simple to do and makes a channel looks far more professional than with the default gray background and the ‘John Doe’ picture.

It seems as if companies not always realise that people actually visit their channels via YouTube.com or their videos embedded throughout the web. While some companies take the trouble to upload an profile picture they don’t do anything else, some don’t even have a profile picture (the John Doe one), although the options are limited you can make your own channel look good :-) . How To Salvage A Dormant YouTube Account

padlock

Taking over a digital marketing campaign is never without certain niggles – but my absolute all time favourite is trying to collate all of the logins and access to social media and other accounts set up in the past. Even the most coordinated strategy can fall foul of the excitement of signing up to the newest shiny tool on the market using some obscure email, especially a personal one. Which often isn’t that much of a problem until that person leaves the company or can’t remember what email was used or a hundred other reasons that make the whole thing more difficult than it should be. In the past year I’ve been asked to revive or access three YouTube accounts that were attracted views and comments but which the company could not login to. The chance to monetize the video content or respond to both positive and negative comments was being lost along with the chance to use the channel for more effective brand building. There are various ways to tackle the situation, so let’s start with the most optimistic option :-) . (more…)

3 Ways To Confirm YouTube Is Actually Working For You

YouTube Playback

After you put the effort in to upload your corporate or client videos to YouTube and optimised/promoted then accordingly, it’s vital that you are able to track and measure how each individual video (plus the channel as a whole) is working for you. Luckily, YouTube provides users with statistical and analytical tools help you measure the reach and engagement of your videos very easily.  Utilising these free tools will provide you with the information you need to understand how your video strategy is working and how it can be further leveraged.

Many people rely on view count stats alone, and while it’s hugely important to know how many people have watched a video, it’s equally important to know how just long viewers watched for and what action they took after. (more…)

View Movie Trailers In Search Results Google

movie_trailers

Google has recently added movie trailers to the English version of the search engine. For some time now you can search for movies playing in your own area by for example doing a search like ‘Movies London’. You will then get a list of movies playing in London, behind every movie you can see the duration, the genre and the language it is in. To see more you can click on the link ‘Show more films‘ and by clicking on a title you will see when and where you can go to view the movie.

With the latest update you can also see trailers from the movies. After doing the above search you will also get a button behind every movie to see the trailer directly on the page with the search results. Clicking the button will open a light box with the video coming from YouTube en below the actors, the director and a short synopsis. At the top you can +1 the trailer and share it on G+. (more…)

YouTube Analytics: the Full Break Down

YouTube-analytics-intro

Last week YouTube announced not only a new design for YouTube, but also a new feature which will replace the old “YouTube Insights”: YouTube Analytics.

With YouTube Analytics YouTube aims at getting video creators more involved. With video becoming more important not only because YouTube is the second largest search engine out there, but also because videos show up in Universal Search, it is a welcome feature. After all, more insights in your statistics can help you make better videos, which get more views and thus a better visibility on the web. And it can drive traffic to your website.

Time to take a closer look at the new YouTube Analytics. (more…)

Major Re-design for YouTube coming Up

YouTube-redesign-intro

It seems like companies like Google are constantly working on improving their products, not just on how they work, but also on how they look. One of Google’s products is YouTube. It seems that YouTube might be getting ready for a major redesign.

Last week the first tests were seen from YouTube redesigning the website. Techlaze showed screens of a new homepage which is very different from the one we are used to. There seems to be an emphasis on your channels and subscriptions in the sidebar. Now there is also a video of a user who was part of the testing group of the new design. (more…)

Another Google Test has been spotted. The preview-section which Google uses on the right hand site of results in the SERPS, is in this test used for a different kind of information: sources.

Meanwhile Google also consists on pushing their own products, especially Google+ and YouTube. There is some nice integration of Plus and Google being rolled out. (more…)

Optimising or optimizing for videos on YouTube: Greg Jarboe explains

The International Search Summit is a conference which has a focus which you don’t find on many conferences: international, the title already says it. Its amazing how little this subject is addressed on the larger conferences. It made Andy Atkins Kruger, an international search expert, start his own conference.

On the day there were many good speakers addressing all different topics. In the morning we saw Steve Capone of Nokia addressing the different international challenges Nokia faces, followed by a great presentation from Mark Neal from Armagard. The second part of the day saw speakers Anne Kennedy, replacing Shari Turow about Website Usability and Gillian Muessig about search in India.

The one presentation I’d like to highlight here is the presentation by Greg Jarboe. After Bruce Daisley of YouTube opened the afternoon with an overview of YouTubes growth Greg talked about video optimization, a growing profession with the growing number of videos online.

Yahoo is back baby! Executive opens attacks at Google and predicts purchases

Yahoo-Money

Yahoo seems to be gearing up. With the launch of Search Direct last week it clearly showed it has not given up on search just yet. But the former search giant now seems to have declared war. Or at least they decided to become more visible. And they are doing so with a loud voice.

According to a story in The Wall Street Journal Yahoo executive Steven Mitzenmacher last week at the Global Technology Symposium in Menlo Park made clear Yahoo is alive and kicking and back. He noted that Yahoo had been off the acquisition agenda for a few years but is now ready to roll: “We’ve come out now… guns blazing”. They are looking to buy. (more…)
