Bing Webmaster Tools Does That?!?!?!

bing-it-on

We are almost all guilty of doing it, interchanging “Google with “search engines.” We use Google Webmaster Tools, we love Google Analytics. We have a love hate relationship with Google. But then there is Bing. They had a few large advertising campaigns to get more users on their search engine but they aren’t making head way there. Yet.

I believe that the more competition there is, the better for us all. Remember back in the day we had Yahoo, Google, Bing (Live), Ask and so many more search engines? Hell it was Ask that came out with some of the innovations that Google and Bing take credit for today. Integrated search and the three column layout. Ask totally did it first. (more…)

UPDATE: Fixed: Google Webmaster Tools Bug Re-verifies Old Accounts

GWT-2

It seems as if there is a bug in Google Webmaster Tools at the moment. Several webmasters were yesterday suddenly seeing sites to which their access was revoked show up again in Google Webmasters. Many of these sites are old sites agencies used to manage.

Others are reporting they are getting notifications that sites from clients they now control have their old agencies or former employees added as a new verified owner.

UPDATE: the issue now seems resolved (see below)

Majestic SEO Adds Bulk Backlinks Tool with GWT

majestic-seo

In good old fashioned SEO, which still is very important (and far from dead), there is much to gain in analysing your back links. Especially with updates like Google Penguin back links to your site can not only make your rankings, but also break them.

Google has different tools which can help you get under way in analysing your own back links and even potentially cleaning them (in which the Disavow tool comes in handy). In Google Webmastertools for example Google also presents you with a number of back links to your site. Not all of them, but it does give you a nice insight in which links Google feels might be important.

As an SEO or even webmaster you want to analyse these links to find if some need changing or in case of ‘bad links’, if some need removal. That can be a lot of work. Majestic SEO today rolls out a feature which will help SEOs get under way with this: the “Bulk Backlinks Checker” tool with Google Webmaster Tools. This tool allows you to upload links in bulk, from Google Webmastertools, and check them. (more…)

Google-url-error-message

Webmastertools is a very convenient tool for site owners because it is a place where you can see how Google perceives your website and which changes should be in order. Its information which Google provides you with.

Usually Google informs web masters through an alert in Webmastertools. Now they will also start sending you e-mail alerts if something is up. (more…)

Bing Let’s You ‘Dissavow’ Links

no-links

Bing has launched a new feature in their Bing Webmaster Tools which allows you to ‘disallow’ links pointing at your site. You can now say you don’t want to be associated with a certain link and the ‘value’ of that link will not be counted in Bing’s algorithm.

The feature is something which can prevent negative SEO efforts, people buying links and pointing them at your site for example, but it is also useful for ‘cleaning up your act’ if you have foul links. It might also be a help stop those e-mailing other sites to take down links, threatening with legal actions. It sure is a feature which many people would love to see on Google as well. (more…)

No More Subscriber Stats, Robots.txt and Site Performance in Webmaster Tools

Ever since Larry Page re-took possession of the CEO position at Google we have seen more products and features being killed than developed at Google.

Under the name of “Spring Cleaning” Google announced another few features to be dismissed, this time in the Google Webmaster Tools. In the next two weeks we will be saying goodbye to features like Subscriber Stats, Robots.txt and Site Performance.

The features are mostly features which are not very much used by experienced SEOs. Setting up a robots.txt is basic 101 for most SEOs and they won’t need Google’s help for that. So taking that down makes sense. (more…)

Doesn’t Cutts get Europe?

Ok, this is a bit of a bold statement, does Cutts get Europe? It seems like he doesn’t, at least if you look at the answer he is giving on a question Dave Davis asked. Davis asked:

“AdWords allows (and it’s pretty accurate) location targeting. Why can’t you guys allow multiple country targeting in Webmaster Tools instead of just one? It would solve an age old problem for webmasters targeting multiple countries.”

This is something which has been bothering me for a while. For example when I was at Searchcowboys I really wanted to target Europeans. That was impossible, it was either the Dutch or the US or the world. Here’s what Cutts answered:
