State of Search radioshow – episode 8: Conversion, Facebook and Sascon

Once again a very special show this week. As guest Roy welcomed Sander Tamaëla, SEO consultant at OnetoMarket and conversion specialist. Later in the show Bas joined in, straight from SASCON where he also grabbed a couple of speakers to give their opinions.

In the first part Roy and Sander discussed conversion optimization. After the first break Bas joined in. The SASCON conference was discussed and the subject turned to Facebook and privacy issues.

State of Search radioshow – episode 6: E-Bay, Twitter ads, site speed and more

This week the guest on the show is Dennis Goedegebuure. He is ‘a dutchman in San Jose’, working as SEO at E-Bay. He worked for E-Bay in the Netherlands and made the move to the US four years ago.

In the first part we discussed the background an SEO needs. A college degree is not necessary for working at an agency, working at a company like E-Bay however you probably will need that degree to grow within the company. Also the discussion goes on about how and if you can teach SEO.

In the second part Roy and Dennis discussed some E-Bay and Marktplaats issues like the frames issue with Marktplaats and the way a big company works with media and external statements. Also Twitter Ads, sitespeed and more was discussed. One interesting part (in the final part) was the way you adress people you work with in the US compared to Europe.

State of Search radioshow – episode 5 – SEO Copywriting mythbusting

The State of Search radioshow this week was one without regular host Roy Huiskes. But instead we got two Dutchmen, David Brinks (who ranks number one on the term SEO copywriting in the Netherlands) with a lot of knowledge of SEO copywriting. Both guys did a session at SES Amsterdam called “SEO copywriting: mythbusting & takeaways”.

We took the time this show to discuss SEO copywriting and the myths they busted at SES Amsterdam. While talking about this some other topics past by like the fact that Google is enhancing the titles, plus the chatroom came up with a couple of questions.

The shownotes are below, all the links can also be found in the special delicious feed. (more…)

State of Search radioshow – episode 4 – SMX, SES, privacy and Matt Cutts

The State of Search radioshow this week was one in which we all returned from several conferences all over the world. As a guest we welcomed Evert Veldhuijzen, blogger on State of Search and speaker at SMX Munich last week. He discussed what happened at SMX Munich and several other topics came by:

  • The for now last show of Marcus at webmasters on the roof
  • SES New York
  • Differences in SERPS
  • Behavioral targeting
  • Brand infringement

In the end even the ‘rockstar status’ of Matt Cutts was discussed.

The shownotes are below, all the links can also be found in the special delicious feed. (more…)

State of Search radioshow – episode 3 – SES New York, local and more

A very special show this time coming straight from the webmasterradio booth at Search Engine Strategies New York 2010. While seated at the booth Bas was joined by Roy over Skype from Holland.

Bas and Roy welcomed guests Jon and Lisa Myers, Dixon Jones and Dave Naylor. After the first break Richard Zwicky also joined into the discussion.

Every guest gave their take on the conference and noticed that many of the sessions had some sort of local topic in them. The recent interest of local search in the UK were discussed, as well its importance in the SERPs, its lack of support and the problems with it as a result.

State of Search radioshow – episode 2 – Live without Google & Mahalo spam

The second episode of the State of Search radioshow featured ‘just’ the two hosts Bas and Roy. Which gave them the change to really get into some subjects.

Triggered by an event which Bas moderated that day they first discussed the difficulties companies face to get started using the web and the fact that they need to first see the ROI of search and social before they start investing in it. After that several topics came by, from a week without Google, to a spammy Mahalo.

The shownotes are below, all the links can also be found in the special delicious feed. (more…)

State of Search radioshow – episode 1 – Global Search and Social Media

A new name, a new logo, same hosts, same time, same show. This Tuesday the State of Search radioshow replaced the old Searchcowboy sshow on Webmasterradio.fm. Myself and Roy did our very first “State of Search show” and talked to Ciaran Norris about global search and social media.

Starting next week: the State of Search radioshow on webmasterradio

If you have been following what we have been doing over the past year you will know we have a Searchcowboys radioshow on Webmasterradio. Every Tuesdaynight at 8PM here in Holland (which is 7 in the UK, and in the US it’s at 2pm on the East Coast and 11am on the West Coast) Roy Huiskes and myself discuss the state of the search market. Yesterday we had our last Searchcowboys radioshow. And no, we are not going to stop doing the show, we are going to rebrand! Starting next week we will be hosting the State of Search radioshow!

So why the change? It is pretty simple actually. With the launch of this new site the name of the show was too much connected to the “old site” which is confusing. To keep it all clear we are ‘rebranding’ the show to the State of Search radioshow. This does mean some changes. We will not only have to change the name, but also the logo and, not un-important, the feed. So if you have subscribed to i-tunes, be sure to change your feed starting next week. We will let you know the new feed a.s.a.p.!

Last night it was the last ‘regular’ Searchcowboys show. Roy and I were joined by no other than one of our writers, Nichola Stott. You can listen to the show below where you can also find the shownotes. Hope to ‘see’ you next week in the chatroom for the State of Search show! (more…)
