Friday Talk: How Much does a Video Weigh?

Video is hot. Many have discovered the benefits of posting videos instead of text, especially because the ‘new generation’ seems to be looking more at YouTube than actually Google. One of the people who has been successful in developing a business around video is Michael Stevens, creator of the popular educational YouTube channel Vsauce.

In his TED talk he asks questions like ‘What color is a mirror?’ and ‘How much does a video weigh?’. With reason:

Friday Talk: Inspirational TED Talks for Search Marketers

TED-logo

This post is originally from a year ago, but with the event week in mind we thought it would be a good idea to ‘re-publish’ the post.

There’s been a couple of good posts recently about learning within the field of search engine optimisation, that include resources that can assist those looking to begin or develop their knowledge. It got me thinking about some of my favourite resources for learning and inspiration and I find that time and again, I’m often looking outside of search engine optimisation for a wider perspective. I like to do this because I find that to come up with a search marketing strategy, it helps to keep on top of many different aspects of marketing, technology and creative thinking. Then of course the mechanics of your strategy are informed by your methods of learning and testing within SEO.

In particular I love the TED Talks videos, which are an amazing collection of talks from visionary experts within a number of fields; from Scientists to Astronauts to Movie Directors. Ted is a non-profit organisation which is devoted to what they define as “ideas worth sharing”, the ideas coming from leaders across the fields of Technology, Entertainment and Design (hence TED). I wanted to share some of my favourite talks that I have found personally educational, insightful and most useful in my role as a search marketer. (more…)

The New Face of YouTube: The Redesign, Annotations and InVideo Programming

Quick editorial note: Today (the publishing date of this post) happens to be Ned’s birthday as well, so be sure to congratulate him in your comment ;) .

The different types of media that is being consumed on the Internet has changed largely over the last few years. Increases in broadband penetration and improvements in mobile, 3G (or 4G for many of us now) speeds have lead to a rapidly increasing change in how we consume media online. It is now not irregular to see widespread use of higher quality image formats, more advanced usage of HTML5 and other interactive technologies, not to mention an exponential increase in the usage of video online. These are used to make engaging and interactive experiences to create websites that stand out and offer very different functionalities that we have become used to over the years (the BBC is a great example of this).

How do British People Use Facebook?

Everybody is different, every country is different, so when “doing” Social Media you have to keep in mind how different countries act. Facebook released this video about how Brits act on Facebook. Our question off course: do you agree? If you are British, do you recognise your own behaviour? And if you are not, do you recognise behaviour of the Brits you know?

How To Salvage A Dormant YouTube Account

padlock

Taking over a digital marketing campaign is never without certain niggles – but my absolute all time favourite is trying to collate all of the logins and access to social media and other accounts set up in the past. Even the most coordinated strategy can fall foul of the excitement of signing up to the newest shiny tool on the market using some obscure email, especially a personal one. Which often isn’t that much of a problem until that person leaves the company or can’t remember what email was used or a hundred other reasons that make the whole thing more difficult than it should be. In the past year I’ve been asked to revive or access three YouTube accounts that were attracted views and comments but which the company could not login to. The chance to monetize the video content or respond to both positive and negative comments was being lost along with the chance to use the channel for more effective brand building. There are various ways to tackle the situation, so let’s start with the most optimistic option :-) . (more…)

After you put the effort in to upload your corporate or client videos to YouTube and optimised/promoted then accordingly, it’s vital that you are able to track and measure how each individual video (plus the channel as a whole) is working for you. Luckily, YouTube provides users with statistical and analytical tools help you measure the reach and engagement of your videos very easily.  Utilising these free tools will provide you with the information you need to understand how your video strategy is working and how it can be further leveraged.

Social Media Stats To Make You Go “Wow”

Most of us will be aware of the videos with the title “Social Media Revolution”. They have been updated a few times and have been used in many training sessions and talks world wide.

You could say that that video was the first ever (moving) info graphic. This video below is in that same line.
