Resources for Learning Digital Marketing

Digital marketing as an industry is growing by the day, with more and more companies allocating larger proportions of their budgets to online over conventional marketing. Due to this ongoing growth, the number of graduate and entry-level positions being filled is also increasing rapidly.

Lots of great educational resources have been introduced and developed over the last few years to help train these amateurs / juniors and develop their understanding of different digital marketing principles. Here are some of the resources that I think are ideal for learning about the different disciplines of digital marketing.

An outline of a Social Media training plan

Social Media training

I’m a late convert to the social media game. In fact, I wrote some horribly misguided blog posts in years past about how social media was never going to integrate with search and how it was all just ego-masturbatory excrement.

Well, chalk that one up to ‘learning experiences’. I can’t be right all the time. ;)

So yes. We have to take social media seriously. I may be a reluctant adopter, but that doesn’t mean I do it half-arsed. When I choose to do something, I do it as good as I possibly can. Otherwise what’s the point?

When it comes to social media for clients, we genuinely believe that the client is best positioned to take charge of their own social media activity. Nobody knows their business and their customers better than the client itself. (more…)

Education is very important and with a quickly evolving industry like the search industry it is difficult to keep up. Especially if you are not just focussing on one specific country or region. So some extra education when it comes to International SEO and Social Media is not a luxury to leave aside.

This week at the International Search Summit London Webcertain, the leading international SEO company who also organize the ISS, launched the “International SEO School” in Barcelona to give marketers the opportunity for that extra piece of international knowledge. Courses so far are International SEO, PPC and the Search / Social Media connection. Trainers include Andy Atkins-Krüger, Anders Hjorth and Bas van den Beld. (more…)

Does more need to be done to encourage more entrants into Search

I like many senior personnel in SEO organisations have spent a fair amount of time in the last couple of weeks recruiting for a number of SEO positions. Like many recruitment drives its been an interesting process, however its certainly once again reaffirmed my initial thoughts as to the level of highly skilled expertise currently in the UK search market.

My initial thoughts over the last couple of years, having recruited for a number of SEO roles over the years has been that the level of quality SEO expertise within the marketplace is currently fairly limited. One only has to look at social media resources such as Twitter or LinkedIn to see the very ‘incestuous’ nature of the UK SEO marketplace – and highlight the depth of talent which exists within the current marketplace.

Given the recent upsurge in interest SEO experienced over the last couple of years, one would suggest this is a trend which can only get worse, as more and more organisations become aware of and enter into the organic search marketplace. As many of the these organisations either pool their resources internally or recruit the expertise of an external agency the requirement for skilled SEO expertise can only increase. (more…)

Search is growing up, let’s take the client with us

The search industry, like the entire web industry for that matter, is a relatively young industry. The biggest player in the industry is only about 11 years old after all. Therefore its not surprising that the industry has seen a yearly recurring trend of growth. Even with the economy going downhill the search industry kept growing.

A new research performed by Reform Digital again shows the growing trend. Things are still looking bright for the industry. But the research, together with recent developments also shows the industry is growing up. Clients want a more ‘mature approach’ and the industry should take that approach to keep growing. Clients want more control and understanding and agencies will have to teach that to the clients. (more…)
