cognitiveseo

SEO’s love tools. If they can’t find tools that will help them succeed in their job they will build the tools themselves if necessary. And when on a conference like SES tools are presented in special sessions everybody attends or reads about the tools shared.

That is why in the past few years we are seeing a lot of new tools entering the market or old tools being revised. SEOs now can choose between tools like Linkdex, SEOMoz, Searchmetrics and Majestic SEO and many many more. Each with their own special features. One tool they can also choose today gets a new update: Cognitive SEO. (more…)

Searchmetrics Essentials: a Must-have for International Marketers.

Searchmetrics

There are a lot of tools to analyse your competitors’ and your own websites on the market. Most of them focus on the English-speaking countries, some of them on the German-speaking. But for me, for example, it has always been very hard to analyze websites in my home country: the Netherlands. Until recently there wasn’t a decent tool that covered our market. But now there is Searchmetrics Essentials and with just one subscription you can analyze SEO, SEA, Social and Link data in 15 different countries!

Giveaway: 500 Extra Mouseflow Recordings

big_brother

Recently I wrote about a very nice tool called Mouseflow which can be used to easily track the movements of visitors on a website. Mouseflow has now offered us some recordings to share with our readers. And who are we to say no to something our readers benefit from right?

If you want to give the tool a try you can sign up for a free account, after you added the Javascript code you have 100 free recordings per month. These 100 recordings aren´t much and so if you have more than 100 visitors per month you will run of out these recordings very quickly.

Tools To Optimize Your Site with Bryan Eisenberg

toolbox

Last year at SMX Stockholm we talked to Bryan Eisenberg who had just launched his new website “Websitetestingtools – The Online Marketers Toolbox”. The website came forth from personal interest, it doesn’t have a commercial purpose.

On the site he calls himself a ‘marketing tool junkie’, and with reason, because he has highlighted over a hundred tools on the site and plans to highlight several more. He describes them, rates them and categorizes them. A great resource.

In cooperation with Bryan we will now be highlighting several tools which he has ‘reviewed’ on his site every month. And we will ask you to give Bryan some tips on tools he should add to his site and off course we want your opinion on the tools! So today we start with some random tools from the site which might be handy for you to use! (more…)

GAConfig: Raventools site Helps Webmasters Set Up Their Analytics

gaconfig

As a webmaster you want to keep track of what happens on your website. One of the best tools to do that is Google Analytics. You can see how many people visit your website and you can track how they got there. But Google Analytics can do a lot more than that. The “problem” however for many webmasters is that they have no idea how to configure their Google Analytics so they can track even more.

Now what you could do is take a course, read a good book or scour the web hoping to find articles about Google Analytics which tell you what to do. I think many webmasters do just that. The people at Raventools must have figured they would help these people get set up. Today they are launching gaconfig.com, a website which helps you set up your analytics configuration. (more…)

Why an editorial calendar is essential for kickass content creation

calendar

As an SEO and content creator, I know how vital it is to keep on top of each of my client’s needs when it comes to blog and web content. There’s nothing quite like missing an opportunity because you were too late to tie in content to a holiday season, a product launch or a pre-planned event to focus the mind on how to work that much smarter…..

It was this post from Lisa Barone back in 2009 that first alerted me to the wonders of the Editorial Calendar, and I’ve been using one ever since. Well, several in fact, for myself, my blogs and all of my client sites.  You might argue that an editorial calendar (EC) takes all of the spontaneity out of blogging, but it actually provides a solid basis for producing and distributing content, still leaving plenty of wiggle room to write those posts that leverage current news stories.  You still get to put your message out there, but in a way that provides your readers (and the search engines) with content that meets their needs on a consistent basis – with the added bonus of ad hoc content as and when required.

Record the Movements of Your Visitors With Mouseflow

big_brother

Last year I wrote about an interesting, and a little bit “Big Brother is watching you” tool on my Dutch blog WebSonic.nl and I thought it might be interesting to also share it here. I’m talking about Mouseflow, a nifty tool I discovered in November thanks to @Anneliesje to easily track visitors on a website.

At first this may not sound that special, but when Mouseflow is special since after it is installed, a visit is actually ‘recorded’, and with that I mean the mouse movements are recorded. This way you can literary track and see what your visitors are doing on the website, were they click, how they move and you can even see when someone is filling in a form (in that case you also know who the otherwise anonymous visitor actually is!). Recordings are available immediately. Automating Twitter Content by Ralph Tegtmeier aka @fantomaster

automation

We are closing our very successful Integration series with a bang. The last guest post is written by no other than Ralph Tegtmeier. He is more know as “Fantomaster” in the industry and not just one of the biggest expert when it comes to automation, also an allround nice guy who I consider to be a good friend in the industry. Ralph writes, what else, about automating Twitter.

Here’s a quick bare bones breakdown on how to automate content generation and distribution for Twitter. Yes, there are plenty of other viable solutions and approaches, tools and techniques. However, the purpose of this article is merely to demonstrate how easy it can actually be to run powerful Twitter campaigns in as efficient a manner as possible without having to pay through the nose. There’s no ambition to list and critique every option under the sun here. So if your favorite service or app isn’t mentioned, that’s not to imply it isn’t any good or something – go ahead and use whatever you’re comfortable with.

Also, please note that this is about specific, Twitter targeted content only. Hence, I’m not addressing the various tools and services that enable you to auto- or crosspost e.g. your blog feed, your YouTube favorites or your Facebook wall to Twitter. Obviously, this form of content recycling can easily be automated via a slew of great options, but that’s not our topic here. Also, if you’re looking for yet another intro on how to ramp up the number of your Twitter followers by spamming them on auto pilot with purportedly “relevant”, keyword driven promo messages, please check elsewhere.
