Think Visibility 8 Round-Up

think-visibility-8-2012

#ThinkVis, #SinkVis, #DrinkVis, … whatever your preferred hashtag – this weekend a whole lot of online marketing rockstar, ninja, guru types headed once again to the Alea Casino in Leeds for the Think Visibility 2012 Autumn Edition.

As always a selection of high quality speakers (including our very own Bas van den Beld) shared their knowledge on a variety of topics from the world of affiliates, PR, Market Research, SEO, Link Building and more! (more…)

Think Visibility 7 Round-Up

think-visability-logo

It’s that time again folks – yes – it really has been 6 months since the last Think Visibility Conference or #thinkvis as it’s more widely known. Held in the usual venue of the Alea Casino in Leeds, Think Visibility 7 was for me one of the most creative and fun yet! A fantastic range of speakers from the brand new to the seasoned pro, and some of the funniest talks (and sights) I have seen on the circuit to date; including a presentation by Chewbacca, bouncy castle and ball pool! The lunchtime entertainment was also a bonus as yours truly got to shoot people in the face wearing a pig mask in the ‘weakest link’ parody!

english-pounds

March 3rd will be the day a big part of the UK SEO crowd will meet up in Leeds again for the first of two Thinkvisibility events for 2012. The conference, organized by our good friend Dom Hodgson and his team, is already up to its 7th edition.

On the website, where starting this weekend the tickets can be bought, the show is announced to be an “event with some surprises”. It sure is and we can let you in on one of those surprises now: a very special session which has the working title of “outsourcing for cheap bastards”. (more…)

ThinkVisibility, Linkworthy Stories and a Link Opportunity to Share

i-won

I was lucky enough to be selected to speak at the recent Think Visibility conference, and did so on behalf of SEO PR Training, a second company that I run in partnership with Claire Thompson. By way of background, at SEO PR Training we put our mutual PR experience to use offering training for SEO professionals seeking to learn more about the media knowledge and skills utilised by PR professionals, that can be turned to our (SEO) advantage to secure high-quality links in online editorial.

If you weren’t at ThinkVisibility and are interested in “How to Find the Angle“, I wrote up my presentation on the SEO PR Training website. In summary we looked at what constitutes “newsworthy” including (amongst other things) stories that have human interest. After my session a webmaster/publisher whom some of you may be familiar with, namely Jason Dale of Loquax competition directory – came to speak to me, as he was in agreement with a particular point I made, and wanted to make me aware of a good link opportunity on that site, which I can share with the community. First, a little context… (more…)

Think Visibility 6: Lessons Learned and Top Takeaways (It’s not all about search…)

think vis

Six months ago, I was travelling up to Leeds for the Think Visibility conference preparing myself as a speaker to convince an audience that KPIs and reporting can be, will if not sexy, at least pretty fascinating and certainly useful. This weekend I was back up for Think Visibility 6 (and my 5th time at the conference) ready to sit back and enjoy someone else’s hard work and insights.

This is now my 3rd write-up of one of my favourite conferences in the calendar, and I’d say that alone pays testimony to its interest, increasingly amazing organisation and the loyalty of its fanbase. Many others are far more diligent than me and have written full conference write-ups. (See Pete Handley’s, Koozai and our very own Bas’ among others).  I’ve decided to take a wider angler, continuing on the Top Takeaway theme I used in my last write-up, and considering some of the specific things I’ve personally learned at ThinkVis. Thinkvisibility in Video and Photos: Take a Good Look

Images can say a lot more than words, so here’s your chance to take a good look at what went on at Thinkvisibility this weekend. The organizers made a very interesting video in which you can see Thinkvis in 8 minutes. Below also the video of the magician who enlightened the party and images we shot at Thinkvisibilty. If you have more, let us know!

Thinkvisibility and Brighton SEO: Talent Pools, but Without the Scouts

scout

This weekend in Leeds the event “Thinkvisibility” took place. For the UK Search World this is one of the most famous conferences. World wide however it is one of the smaller players. This coming weekend in Brighton there is another similar conference taking place, organized by our very own Kelvin Newman: Brighton SEO.

Thinkvisibility and Brighton SEO are two conferences who have been around for quite a while. Thinkvisibility was already organized for the sixth time. But “Thinkvis” and “Brighton” are not the only ‘small’ conferences being organized at the moment. More and more we are seeing these intimate gatherings of SEOs, search marketers and those starting to learn the profession pop up. At the breakfast table the day after the conference other possibilities for similar events in other regions of the UK were already discussed. It seems like a trend. But it is a good trend, because the smaller conferences are the talent pools where the new search speakers are coming from. (more…)

State of Search radioshow – episode 57: Affiliates, Merchants and SEO with @thehodge

Bas and Roy were joined by Dom Hodgson, organizer of the Thinkvisibility conference in Leeds. The topic of the day was affiliates. Off course they looked forward to A4U Expo, but they also adressed other affiliate related topics like a UK merchant telling its affiliates not to rank in Google and the affiliate conference which Roy visited that day. In the last part the dropping of some Google API’s was discussed.

Linkbuilding Tactics, Tools and Traps: Wise Words from Dixon Jones of Majestic SEO

Dixon car

Editorial: With wide open arms we welcome Claire Carlile to our blogging team! We have seen some of her blogging in the past and know she can write. We have seen her work and know she knows what she is talking about and we have met her so we know she is a great person. All ingredients to be part of the State of Search blogging team. Welcome a board Claire, good luck! Below you find her first post entitled “Linkbuilding Tactics, Tools and Traps: Wise Words from Dixon Jones of Majestic SEO”.

OK, so here goes, my inaugural post on State of Search, please be gentle with me.

I’m a big fan of live blogging and follow up posts on conferences and presentations for a number of reasons:

• Firstly you get to attend a conference (triple win: professional development, networking and party combined!)
• Secondly if your blog is any good you’ll earn links and social shares, which is always nice.

Think Visibility 5 – The One with the Panda, the Pick n Mix & the Jaamit Award

Think Vis Sweets

So here I am sitting on a train from Leeds, on my way back to London after yet another brilliant Think Visibility, and  practically in tears at having to miss Drink Visibility. Not to mention significantly more sober than most other attendees right now. Possibly due some kind of bizarre live blogging addiction (yes, WTF) I thought now might be a good time to do a bit of a write up on this weekend’s conference shenanigans before I jet off for some snowboarding fun tomorrow morning.

This is actually my 6-month-versary with State of Search as I wrote my first post, a Love Letter to Think Visibility, at TV4. This time I was returning as a speaker, gulp. True to form, Dom and his merry band of organisers somehow managed to take the attendee-love one step further this time with a host of additions. The pre-party included a giant Scalextrix track. Retro toy fun ftw, and this was just the beginning of the goodies. A little pre-conference bacon buttie & cup of tea? Well I don’t mind if I do. Of course not all of Dom’s surprises were quite as pleasant – seeing my face plastered across three projector screens first thing on a Saturday, with a hangover, was not my ideal gentle wake up exercise. State of Search radioshow – episode 25: Thinkvisibility, The death of Sphinn, LDA and What’s Google up to

Bas and Roy were joined by Peter Young this week to talk about some of the topics which were in the news over the past week. Peter visited Thinkvisibility and talked us through the event. After that the discussion went to Sphinn, which announced it would be leaving their voting system. Was Sphinn useful or not?

After the break several topics were discussed. Roy and Peter argued the tool SEOMoz launched on LDA was a ‘fail’ and it was discussed what Google might be announcing. At the end Bas explained his new role of Social Marketing Ambassador.
