The 3 Link Building Tools I Always Use (And How I use Them)

linkbuilding2

I’m often asked what link building tools I use.  The truth is, that I don’t use that many and the ones that I do use aren’t that fancy.  There are loads of tools out there and the market is certainly very saturated right now, but I always find myself using the same tools over and over again.  I admit that my process for link building may not be the most mind boggling, but it works for me even if it does take a bit longer!

In this post I’m going to talk about the tools that I use the most and for fairness, include a few others that I use but perhaps not as often. (more…)

I would like to share a recent new tool finding that hopefully can help you to analyze your site’s linking with an easier graphic visualization.

I’m a very visual person and when I get a list like this of a site’s links from Google Webmaster Tools, Screaming Frog or any other crawler I struggle to get the information I usually want as fast as I need: (more…)

How to Scale eCommerce SEO

Paddy

This post was inspired by a question I had via email from Grant Horejsi following my SEOmoz blog post on eCommerce SEO. The question was a great one and related to scaling SEO across an eCommerce website which had thousands and thousands of products. This is a common situation to be in and one which I’ve experienced a lot. So this post is going to go into detail on how to scale SEO recommendations across a large eCommerce site.

Meta Description Tags – Billboarding Your Site on SERPS

Billboard-buy-product

So you are now ranking where you want to be, but you simply are not seeing the results that your research tells you to expect. It could be that you suffer from having weak meta description tags. Don’t listen to the “experts” that say it doesn’t matter – let’s billboard your page!

A lot of search marketers now believe that the meta description is meaningless. They say that since because it is not a part of the algorithm in determining rankings that they will shift their focus from it. I ask why, they give reasons, and we both end up feeling unfulfilled from that conversation. So during my drive from Michigan to Florida, I got some motivation for this months article. (more…)

Review Snippets in Google: what about the current situation?

Review-snippets

This is a guest post by  Jan-Willem Bobbink, who is an SEO consultant at Internet Advantage in the Netherlands.

Since two weeks, Google has thrown its whitelisting policy regarding the display of rich snippets overboard. By accident I found out that review snippets appeared next to some results in Google for a sideline project. A reason for me to see where the boundaries are and how this affects the traffic. (more…)

To Build or not to Build

This is a guest post by Richard Shove, who is SEO Specialist at OMD UK. Richard has a strong opinion on the industry and wanted to share his view on whether or not we should all be learning code to become a good SEO.

Before I get started, I apologise in advance as this post may initially come across a little negative. It’s not intended to offend or criticize, I’m Scottish and it’s in my nature to be sarcastic and angry. Bear with me though, there is a meaning to the rant.

8 Development Mistakes to avoid when migrating a website

diversion

There always tends to be a little bit of an “us vs them” attitude between SEOs and developers. A lot of developers think SEOs = spammers and a great deal of SEO’s don’t understand enough about architecture, language and data structures to have a meaningful conversation about development.  So when things do go wrong it’s very easy to point the blame at the other party.

The aim of this post is to hopefully bring us a little closer together and provide a checklist for a site migration, if you avoid these issues you will go a long way to not destroying your clients search performance followed by that dreaded phone call. I personally consider these to be in the remit for both developers and SEOs and they should definitely be checked on the testing environment. (more…)
