Facebook Growth Biggest Outside of US and UK: Look at Brazil and India

Outside

Is your focus when it comes to social media set to the right country? It might not be if what you are targeting is the Western ‘civilised’ world.

Where many brands still focus on the US, UK and Western Europe a lot can be said for turning your head to face other directions: East, towards India, towards Central and South America and South East of Europe. We know Facebook is, are you? (more…)

How do British People Use Facebook?

Everybody is different, every country is different, so when “doing” Social Media you have to keep in mind how different countries act. Facebook released this video about how Brits act on Facebook. Our question off course: do you agree? If you are British, do you recognise your own behaviour? And if you are not, do you recognise behaviour of the Brits you know?

Manchester United most visible in Search, Chelsea most Social

In a week in which there is a lot of Champions League Football taking place it is always nice to build a bridge between two completely different industries. And that is exactly what Searchmetrics decided to do when they started their research to find out which Premier League team is most visible in Google.co.uk and which team has the most social mentions.

The results are interesting. As you will see further down in this post the ‘League Table’ has a slightly different look than the one which shows the rankings of the ‘real’ Premier League. A few teams however rank well on all tables: Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal do well online, where Arsenal needs to catch up in points in the real Premier League. The best social platform to be visible on seems to be Facebook. (more…)

Twitter Grows Faster Than Facebook

Facebook-Twitter-growth-emarketer

We recently saw that when it comes to the time spent on social networks Facebook wins. Where Google+ only could ‘grab’ people for an average of 3 minutes, Facebook had users clicking around for six to seven hours. Twitter in that list had 21 minutes, so was way behind Facebook.

Average time spent is an interesting metric, like other metrics it should be taken with the necessary criticism. It should be seen in the light of active users, not number of users and the numbers from Comscore last week didn’t show the mobile users for example.

New numbers can be seen in that light. eMarketer reports that, in the US, Twitter is growing more rapidly than Facebook. (more…)

Impact of SSL Search

State-of-search-notprovided-1

Google has introduced encrypted search per 17th of October. It rolled out initially on google.com

The introduction of this so called ‘making search more secure‘ strategy caused quite a stir and ongoing discussion takes place here, here and in our own State of Search podcast here.

At the beginning the impact seemed to be in the single digit numbers being about 2%-3%. Last week I started to notice a dramatic increase on these numbers, so I decided to do some historical reporting on the percentiles. (more…)

How Facebook Affects Your Relationships

Facebook-relationships-intro

We’ve all seen it happen. You change your relationship status on Facebook and everybody is all over you. Even if you have been married for 10 years and never filled that in on Facebook and you do know, people will think you just got married!

But there is more. Did you know that you can filter between the different kind of people on Facebook? Do married people post differently than singles for example? And does Facebook actually have an influence on your relationship? This infographic goes into that topic.

google-plus-statistics

There are people who don’t believe that Google Plus is really growing in the speed it is. And if it is growing that fast, it must be with the geek community only. facebook-europe

UKOM/Nielsen reports that for the first time ever Facebook surpassed Microsoft to become the second-most popular website in the UK. They grew 7 percent compared to a year earlier to 26.8 million visitors in Britain in May.

With that Microsoft falls back to the number three spot. MSN/WindowsLive/Bing sites combined were still good for 26.2 million visits from Brits. Google is still leading the dance with 33.9 million. Nielsen came to these numbers by looking at their panel of 50.000 people. (more…)
