@State_ofsearch is now @Stateofsearch: How To Get That Twitter Account You Always Wanted

stateofsearch-on-Twitter

Ever since the start of the website about two years ago we have had one thing which was a bit annoying: we didn’t ‘have’ the @stateofsearch Twitter account. That account was taken by an Italian artist who lived in Dublin. We tried contacting her in different ways to try and take the Twitter account of her hands. After all, she had not used the Twitter account since she claimed it in 2009. There was only one tweet on it. We never got in touch with her and were therefor “forced” to use the Twitter account @state_ofsearch, so with the underscore.

We have ‘lived’ like that for two years. Until today. As of today we now own the Twitter account @stateofsearch. All followers of @state_ofsearch have been ‘moved’ to @stateofsearch, so if you were following us already: don’t worry, you will still see the same updates, you only have to keep an eye on the @replies you do towards us, but we’ll keep monitoring that, also because we also own @state_ofsearch. And if you are not following us: what? Do it right now!

The process of getting the Twitter account seems long, in fact it turned out to be quite easy. Within 10 days everything was fixed. Let me explain how I got the account, without actually getting in touch with the account owner. (more…)

Welcome to 2012, Here We Go!

Stos-2012

So 2011 is over and 2012 has started. Funny, last year only is a few days ago, but already seems far away. That’s what happens when you make a fresh start. The year in front of us looks tempting. We are looking at the future and seeing the possibilities.

State of Search is starting the New Year fresh too. We will off course be looking back at 2011 somewhat, but our focus is to ‘start fresh’ and look forward. We have many plans for 2012, and 2012 will have many plans for us. Let me take you into 2012 a little bit, both from a State of Search perspective as from an industry perspective. (more…)

Search Marketers Get Alerted Most Through Twitter, Then Facebook

Facebook-question

At State of Search we are working hard on improving the site to fit the needs of the people who visit the site. So every week we ask them a question on Facebook about how they like to read not just our site, but sites in general. That way we have an idea of what our readers like and how we should or should not approach them.

In our weekly Facebook question this week we looked at how people who are connected to State of Search (mostly SEO’s and marketers) tend to find specific posts on the web, how do they get alerted to the posts. The answer to this question was easy for most of the respondents: Twitter rules. (more…)

Poll: what other search blogs do you read?

blog

If you would take a peek at my RSS Reader some of you might be surprised of the amount of search blogs in there. I read many. My guess is many of you do too. We’d like to know which ones you read. Not as a contest, but out of interest into what the readers of State of Search “triggers”. And what beter way than to ask you?

In this poll (which, I repeat is NOT a contest) we have listed 15 blogs for you to choose from and one “other” option. These 15 have been randomly picked. If you really like to tell us which others you read, do leave a comment below. The poll will be up in the sidebar for the next period. We will off course share the results. So please vote, either to the right —> or below here:  (more…)

State of Search: our first year ends and the future begins

This post was originally written for the State of Search newsletter. If you want to receive unique content in your mailbox and get an overview of the best posts on State of Search first, subscribe to our newsletter here.

It’s February 2010 when State of Search for the very first time publishes to the world. We chose SES London 2010 to be the place we would tell the world there was a new blog out there. The initiative from me and Lisa was originally meant to be a place where we could publish our own stuff but very soon the first bloggers who wanted to join in showed up. Louis, Sam and Nichola were amongst the first to be part of a team which would grow very rapidly.

The team

Which brings me to the blogging team. There is no doubt whatsoever that the success of this blog has been all made by the bloggers. At State of Search we are not looking at how big the name is from someone who comes to blog with us, we look at their potential. We love to have youngsters eager to share their knowledge and open up to the world. And I think we’ve succeeded in that. The team has produced some fabulous content and has proven itself to also be a real time: we are all friends, even though some of us have never met. Note: in the coming two weeks I will be highlighting the bloggers here on the site, so keep your eyes open for that! (more…)

State of Search has rapidly become one of the most read blogs about search engine marketing in the industry. With many high quality writers we always try to deliver high quality content to our readers.

As you may know we only started in February, but we have already managed to get the attention of all the influential websites and people in the industry.
