3 Years of State of Search: Happy Birthday to a Great Blog (and win!)

3year-birthday-featured

Last Saturday marked a special day. On that day 3 years ago we published our very first article (in which we even mentioned Google Buzz, wow!). Three years ago we were at the first day of SES London (which again takes place this week), and I remember sitting with a group of brand new State of Search blogger around a round table bashing out the first articles. If I am correct Lisa Myers was there, Sam Murray, Louis Venter and Nichola Stott. Today we write (this one!) our 2300 th article.

Three years later we are the most successful search blog and Europe, knocking on doors of becoming one of the most important blogs world wide. An incredible adventure started there three years ago and we are now making plans for a very interesting and bright future. For now we’d like to thank you for reading our articles and thank the 38 bloggers for their excellent material of the years. Here’s to the future!

Best Read and Most Shared Posts of January 2013 on State of Search

ipad-reading

Holy crap, January is already gone again. Has there ever been a first month of the year which passed so quickly? Yes, I know, all Januaries have 31 days, but still, this one seemed to have passed quicker than others.

Maybe it is because so many things happened this month. Google Updates, events, Facebook stepping into search and many more things happened in this month. And a lot of great content happened! Content right here on State of Search off course. Maybe so much great stuff that you missed it. So below you will find an overview of the best read and most shared posts in January 2013. To make it more ‘honest’ (since some posts are on there longer) we also took the last week of December into account (as we will do next month with the last week of January). (more…)

A Pause on the Newsletter to Create a Better One

play pause

Back when we first started sending out a newsletter we had the idea we wanted to do it properly and create not ‘just’ a newsletter with a feed, but to give you fresh content each month in a nicely formatted way. Content which you would not find on the blog so it was exclusively for those reading the newsletter.

Somewhere along the line we however lost track of where we were going with the newsletter and we ended up just sending the weekly update ones. And although the weekly update can be handy if you are not all the time coming back to the website to read about the latest articles, it is not what we want to broadcast to the world.

So as one of our many New Years Resolutions we decided it was about time to update the newsletter. Make it special again, give you choices on what you want to see in the newsletter and make it special for everyone who reads it. To do that we need some time and although we could just continue to keep sending out the weekly updates we decided not to and pause those to take the time to create a stunning new one. Why? Because we believe we should send you relevant stuff, good stuff. And we think we can do better.

So if you are a subscriber, in the next few weeks you won’t be receiving a newsletter, but do not unsubscribe in the meantime because you will be missing out on some fantastic new ones soon! And if you haven’t subscribed yet, be sure to do so because then you will be certain you will receive our new fully updated newsletter once it is ready. You can sign up below!

In the meantime make sure you follow our Twitterfeed, Facebook Page and / or Google+ Page to make sure you are not missing out on any of the great content (or subscribe to our RSS off course).

But we want to know what YOU want

While creating the new newsletter we are listening to what the readers (that’s you!) want. So we created a small form below for you to give us your input on what you want in a newsletter, that way we can make it perfect for you!

[gravityform id="8" name="What do you want in a newsletter?"]

Signing up?

Don’t want to miss out on that great new newsletter? Make sure you sign up already to not miss our first new updated newsletter!

[gravityform id="1" name="Subscribe to our newsletter"]

Are you a designer?

Finally, are you a designer and do you think you can do a better job and have a cool format for us? Let us know and show us what you’ve got and who knows we might be using your format!

2000 posts on State of Search: Did you know…?

Jahrtausendwechsel in Berlin

Can you believe this, we started in February 2011 as a side project, a place where a few of us could ‘drop’ the content they wanted and now, in October 2012, State of Search is not only an award winning blog, it has reached the impressive number of 2000 blogposts. 2000!

Most of the 2000 posts are also not just any post, they are high quality content, content which helps the reader forward, helps the reader understand and helps the reader get a grip on their search and social strategies.

With now an actual editorial team in place and a total of 34 bloggers and counting this blog really has become a website to keep an eye on!

To ‘celebrate’ the 2000nd post I thought I would share some interesting stats and facts with you. (more…)

Get One SEO Tip A Day and Help Give More

state-of-search-seo-tip-of-the-day

State of Search is going to give you the ultimate overview of SEO tips in the world. Coming from the entire blogging team and with your help we will create the best list ever.

SEO is changing, Google is using different metrics than 10 years ago, people search in different places and people are behaving differently. Every now and then this means we get to see posts proclaiming ‘the death of SEO’ in one way or another. The truth is: SEO is far from dead, the opposite actually, it is just turning into a ‘real’ part of the marketing funnel. It is being taken out of its corner and integrated into proper marketing.

But still, with all the changes that are going on, there is a lot of ‘elementary SEO’ you can do. I would almost call it ‘basic’, but in fact it is more than just basic. It is elements which are part of optimising your content on your website we all need to do. Relatively simple things you can do to make your content more visible to search engines and thus to the people searching for answers. (more…)
