Posts About ‘Social Media’

Sharing in 2011

sharing-in-2011-intro

We have been sharing like crazy in the past year. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, there have never been more places where we could ‘drop’ our thoughts, content or other stuff.

Not surprisingly we shared the most on Facebook, where Digg started to drop off. And off course mobile has risen again. This infographic shows us what and where we shared most in 2011. (more…)

Understand Your Market Before Integrating Your Online Marketing Channels – by Li Evans

market

The “second round” of our guest posts is being kicked off by Li Evans, an old friend of State of Search, has been a guest on our radioshow before. We are very pleased to have her on board. She is going to write about understanding the marketing channels.

There are a lot of ways that marketers can integrate different marketing channels. From email, to social media to search (both PPC & organic) to even affiliate marketing and display advertising, the questions truly become overwhelming if you aren’t looking at data and research to help point you in the right direction. If you are just going by with “what worked in the past” you can find that your efforts are truly falling behind the times and aren’t garnering you any ground in engaging with your customers.

Launching a major integrated marketing strategy without understanding where your customers are, what they like, what are their passion points, what do they consider valuable and in the end, what makes them convert is a useless effort. It’s a lot like playing the child’s game of pin the tail on the donkey where players are blindly trying to put the tail in the right place. Without some sort of guide to lead you down the correct path, pinning down the right tactics will be as hit and miss as that child’s game is. Unfortunately your business really cannot rely on hit and miss marketing tactics for very long. Most companies today need to see results, fast. (more…)

Wrap Up of the International Search Summit – ISS London 2011

iss-logo

The International Search Summit took place in London at the British Library on November 24th 2011. Having been to ISS New York earlier in the year, I thought it would be hard to top , but the UK session surpassed expectations with not only an impressive line up, but high level delegates from the world of international search.

Each session one was a gem in it’s own right. If you haven’t yet booked on to an ISS I recommend it, as it could just give you an insight into strategy that you may not be using for your less global campaigns. (more…)

Killer Search Operator Tactics for the Social Marketer

iss-logo

The International Search Summit took place in London on Thursday at the British Library. I was due to write a full wrap up but there was so much great content, that many sessions deserve a post of their own.

This particular session was without a doubt one of the stand outs not only because it was presented by the awesome Marty Weintraub but the information presented came from an aimClear study of 7 Search Engines, 45 social media platforms and various countries for actionable SEO insights that has not even been published yet. The Breakdown of Internet Marketing Barriers

seo-v-ppc

It is already the fourth post in the Integration series but only the first male to contribute! Today Raventools’ Taylor Pratt takes the stage. He is looking at PPC, Social Media and Conversion to SEO.

Over the last year I’ve been so excited to see just how many people are beginning to take a different approach to their online marketing. A holistic approach, if you will. Holistic Internet marketing creates unity between all of your online marketing activities to increase effectiveness and success. Put simply, it’s the best and fastest way for our industry to continue to perform at such a high level.

If you’ve been thinking about ways to unite your various Internet marketing activities but aren’t sure where to start, I thought I’d share with you a few of my favorite holistic marketing strategies I use when marketing Raven. (more…)

Whose line is it anyway? Getting Social Media right

thumbs_up_B2B

In many modern day SEO campaigns, social forms an increasingly important part of the campaign mix, particularly to organisations willing to exploit short term opportunism, viral campaign development or just simple brand building. When one considers the vast reach of social media particularly through Facebook and Twitter, that’s hardly surprising. These sites are the most visited sites in the internet accounting for millions of visits and billions of page views a month.

Brand protection can often be a big part of this, whether to directly tackle potential issues online or to utilise to reduce negative search engine results pages. Further to this such activity can often fall into that crack that’s sits between different channel owners such as PR and SEO – who often may share the development of an Online PR function for a client – strangely enough a similar type of scenario which often exists within the SEO/Social Media framework. Tool: Downloading Your Tweets with TweetDownload

TweetDownload

It is about time again we highlighted a tool on State of Search. Today we will be looking at a brand new one: TweetDownload. Have you ever had the urge to look back into a twitter conversation and then noted that it wasn’t that easy to do? For starters you have to “read backwards” on Twitter to understand the conversation. And on top of that Twitter only goes back four days.

Things might just get better soon with the launch of “Tweet Download”, a third-party service which lets you back up your Twitter account including tweets, DMs, followers, friends, favorites and the entire conversation. (more…)

Friday Talk: Pete Cashmore on the Future of Social Media

Pete Cashmore knows his Social Media, right? He writes about it regularly. Or maybe you could say that Pete Cashmore is Social Media. It is like the gossip journalist being gossiped about himself. They know their stuff, but they are also so much in the middle of it that it sometimes is difficult to see things with a fresh look. However, when Pete Cashmore goes and talk about the future of Social Media, you keep your eyes open, because it is always interesting to find out his thoughts on this. Cashmore talked about just that on the annual Mashable Media Summit. The talk you can see below.

Oh My Klout has Dropped! Who cares, Klout is for the Lazy People

klout-not-approved

Ever since Social Media became main stream people have discovered the principle of “influentials’. Probably not realizing that the influentials have always been there. Even in the stone ages people did stuff because other people influenced them. And that hasn’t changed. What has changed is that we can now measure these influences. Or at least, we think we can.

A good example of that is Klout. The service which looks at how people interact on Social Media. The good thing about Klout was (yes, was) that it didn’t just look at number of followers or number of likes. It looked at the conversation. Or so it said. Recently Klout decided to change some of their algorithm. (more…)

crowd

Given that engaging on the social web can benefit your brand’s marketing, recruitment, PR, sales, customer service, and other departments, the question of ‘who should manage and represent your brand on the social web?’ will inevitably arise. The answer is, all of them.
