Thinkvisibility and Brighton SEO: Talent Pools, but Without the Scouts

scout

This weekend in Leeds the event “Thinkvisibility” took place. For the UK Search World this is one of the most famous conferences. World wide however it is one of the smaller players. This coming weekend in Brighton there is another similar conference taking place, organized by our very own Kelvin Newman: Brighton SEO.

Thinkvisibility and Brighton SEO are two conferences who have been around for quite a while. Thinkvisibility was already organized for the sixth time. But “Thinkvis” and “Brighton” are not the only ‘small’ conferences being organized at the moment. More and more we are seeing these intimate gatherings of SEOs, search marketers and those starting to learn the profession pop up. At the breakfast table the day after the conference other possibilities for similar events in other regions of the UK were already discussed. It seems like a trend. But it is a good trend, because the smaller conferences are the talent pools where the new search speakers are coming from. (more…)

The Five Best Slide Decks from SMX Advanced London

You’ll already know from my run down of day one of SMX Advanced London there was a heap of great presentations and session. Day two was a bit of a belter as well.

Already every man and his dog has published their live blog or notes but to sum up my time there I wanted to highlight and share five of the most informative and interesting slidedecks from the conference.

A good slide show is a work of art and can really get across the point so much better than a quick transcription of their words.

So without further ado here, in no particular order are my five favourites. (more…)

Nine Irresistible take aways from SMX Advanced London Day One

It was a busy day yesterday at SMX in London, unlike previous years this was the under the ‘Advanced” brand which made a huge difference, there was less of the SEO 101 content we all know so well and more actionable suggestions and plenty of coverage of topics that we’re new to me.

But what if you weren’t there, or where overwhelmed by by the sheer volume of live tweets?

Well Jaamit has done some great live blogging, which has some great run downs, but I’ve tried to make it even quicker with my nine takeaways from the first day. (more…)

Time to learn from SMX Advanced London and A4U Expo Munich!

It’s one of those weeks again. If you are in Search Marketing or working with or as an affiliate and you are looking to learn how to improve your business there is plenty of opportunity in Europe to get more information. That is, if the Icelandic ash cloud doesn’t stop you.

In London SMX is starting their advanced sessions for the first time in Europe. The successful format has been running in the US (Seattle) for a while but SMX has decided it was time for Europe to get its own SMX advanced. Meanwhile on the other side of the North Sea affiliates and search marketers are (trying to) gathering in Munich where A4U Expo opens its affiliate doors for the first time. State of Search will try to give you updates on both events, so stay tuned!

We have special pages set up for both SMX London and

Search Marketing Expo London starts in two weeks at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden. For the first time since SMX came to Europe the show is all advanced, in the same format SMX has been using in Seattle, USA.

The show hosts regular names like Mikkel deMib Svendsen, Rand Fishkin, Rob Kerry, our very own Kelvin Newman, Andy Atkins-Krueger, Christine Churchill and has a surprising speaker: ex-SES host Kevin Ryan.

The keynote of the conference will be done by Wolfram Alpha Managing Director Barak Berkowitz.

Organizer Danny Sullivan is enthusiastic about the new set up:

“SMX Advanced’s unique format has been very successful in Seattle. Adding London is ideal, given its sophisticated search marketing community. Topics at Advanced are discussed at a very high level, so there’s no slowing down to bring beginners up to speed. This format isn’t for everyone, and we have other conferences that address the needs of beginners, but experienced search marketers have embraced Advanced enthusiastically,”

SMX Advanced London will take place on 17/18th May 2010 at The Grand Connaught Rooms, Covent Garden. SMX Advanced is the only search marketing conference designed exclusively for experienced internet marketers. Sessions are fast-paced, Q&A-packed, frequently controversial, always informative and don’t stop to cover the basics.

If you want to attend the conference you can go there with a 15% discount code from State of Search! Register here and fill in the Promotional code “STATEOFSEARCH010
