patrick-altoft

In two weeks time the European Search World will gather in London to attend, network and share knowledge at SES London 2012. Like every year it promises to be a great event with a great line up of speakers. State of Search will off course be covering the event and in cooperation with our friends at SEO Chicks you could be visiting the conference!

Going up to the conference we will also be shedding our light on the event. We have asked several speakers at the event to answer some questions. Questions about SES off course, but also about the market in general: where do they feel the market is heading.

Today we listen to Patrick Altoft who his Director of Search at Branded3. (more…)

Another summary of a session at last weeks SES Amsterdam 2011; Sander Tamaela, SEO manager at Onetomarket,  speaking about how to unleash the power of your organisation to get the most out of SEO.

First of all, explaining how SEO has evolved, all the way up to the recent Panda update, now a hot topic – but if you are worried about this you have been spending the last few years on the wrong SEO strategy. Who should SEO be accounted to? Not to your SEO (consultant) – but rather to your whole organisation – Sander explains. (more…)

SES Amsterdam: The future of SEO

SES-Amsterdam-2011

We are at SES Amsterdam today, which is a local SES event with many local speakers, but also some international stuff. One of the speakers is Martin Mc Donald of OMD. He delivered the keynote at this years SES Amsterdam. Below you can find the live blog of his session.

SEO has long time not been an industry, it was just about breaking the algorithm. Which was relatively simple. As an industry we broke PageRank. For some keywords it’s only possible to rank based on getting (buying) massive amounts of links. Now SEO is a wide part of online marketing. If you get SEO you get the rest of online marketing. Thinkvisibility and Brighton SEO: Talent Pools, but Without the Scouts

scout

This weekend in Leeds the event “Thinkvisibility” took place. For the UK Search World this is one of the most famous conferences. World wide however it is one of the smaller players. This coming weekend in Brighton there is another similar conference taking place, organized by our very own Kelvin Newman: Brighton SEO.

Thinkvisibility and Brighton SEO are two conferences who have been around for quite a while. Thinkvisibility was already organized for the sixth time. But “Thinkvis” and “Brighton” are not the only ‘small’ conferences being organized at the moment. More and more we are seeing these intimate gatherings of SEOs, search marketers and those starting to learn the profession pop up. At the breakfast table the day after the conference other possibilities for similar events in other regions of the UK were already discussed. It seems like a trend. But it is a good trend, because the smaller conferences are the talent pools where the new search speakers are coming from. (more…)

SES NY 2011: Crossing the Digital Divide

So after much drama (all of my own making) and of course lots of fun and socializing over the last couple of days, I’m finally blogging a SES session (Bas can breath easy now).

Crossing the digital divide covered an area that I have never really delved into before, crossing the divide from search to display, so was a very exciting session for me, looking at how display advertising can be optimised.

Digital Asset Optimisation in the evolving and merging world of search

digitalassets

The world of search and marketing is constantly evolving and merging which is why SEOs have got to constantly be aware of how to utilise off page assets online. Universal search has meant that organisations can now index, rank and obtain traffic from a wider channel of sources so it is vital that you are involved in that space.

Paddy Moogan steps up first to talk and makes the point known that he is called Paddy not “Patty” as it says in the SES conference guide. I am sure people won’t forget as his presentation was packed with actionable points and valuable pieces of information.

duplicate-content

More and more site owners are concerned that they might be getting penalised accidentally or overtly because of duplicate content.
