This week we highlight a lady speaker. The most important woman within Google and an example for many women out there when it comes to being successful. Mayer keynoted at the WITI Annual Conference in San Jose. She talks about Google off course, but mostly about management and how that works within Google.

The two days at A4U Expo London 2011 were filled with videos, interviews, people networking and much more. But one of the most important parts of the conference off course were the sessions.

We’ve reported on the sessions extensively. Sometimes it is enough to read about it, sometimes you want to know a little bit more. Therefore we have collected some of the available slide decks from A4U Expo London 2011. Find below the presentations from Kelvin Newman, Kevin Gibbons, David Sottimano, Lee Griffin, Kevin Edwards, Sam Crocker, Stephen Pavlovich, Martijn Beijk and Patrick Altoft (in random order) (more…)

Friday Talk: Susan Bratton About the importance of conversation within Affiliate Marketing

With the Affiliate Conference A4U Expo coming up next week we figured it would be a nice idea to show a presentation around Affiliate Marketing. In this case it is Susan Bratton who talks about the importance of conversation, also within Affiliate Marketing. Bratton is co-founder of an affiliate network, a green Web hosting company, an ecommerce publishing site and a podcast network.

Friday Talk: Bryan Eisenberg Keynote at Affiliate Summit East 2011

Earlier this week we talked to Bryan Eisenberg while we visited SMX Stockholm. Bryan today launched his website websitetools.com which we highlighted this morning and we figured: why not do a little extra and make our Friday Talks one of Bryan. Bryan is a very good and engaging speaker as you can see in this video from the Affiliate Summit East 2011.

The Best Bits of Brighton SEO – September 2011

brighton-SEO-logo

On Friday 9th September over 500 search marketers met at The Corn Exchange in Brighton for BrightonSEO. It was my first time attending this event, and in comparison with some of the pricier conferences, was definitely one of the best.

Kelvin Newman from Site Visibility has been running this free SEO conference since December 2009 where he started it alongside Jaamit Durrani who sadly passed away last year. The conference was a great success thanks to Kelvin, Amelia, all the speakers and the sponsors of the event. (more…)

Are We Controlled by Algorithms?

I think that it is not exaggerated when I say that many people in search are obsessed by algorithms. One little change by Google makes that many people in search jump up.

This video from the TED Conference shows Kevin Slavin. He argues that we’re living in a world designed for — and increasingly controlled by — algorithms. He warns that we are writing code we can’t understand, with implications we can’t control. A must see presentation.

Presentations from SASCON 2011 and a special Rap Up

Last week was a week filled with conferences. After SMX and ISS we went up North in the UK to Manchester and visited SASCON. This conference (Search Analytics Social CONference) had much in it, including some big partying. On our special SASCON page we have collected links to posts about SASCON, the presentations and videos from the event.

But especially for you, here is the closing video of the SASCON conference, a very special rap up, which is a unique way of ending the conference (live-version also on the SASCON page). Plus we have collected all the presentations so far on slideshare and will add any others which will become available.

Everyday compassion at Google: presentation by Google’s Chade-Meng Tan

Google is not only looked at because of their search techniques, or their advertising skills, or all the different products they have out there already, they are also looked at from a Human Resource point of view. Working at Google is supposedly something very special. One of the people behind that ‘success’ is Chade-Meng Tan. He was of Google’s earliest engineers and is now Google’s “Jolly Good Fellow”: the head of personal.

Chade-Meng Tan was invited to speak at one of the TED Conferences. This one is in New York, in the UN building. He talks about how Google practices compassion in its everyday business.

Jonathan Rosenberg about responsible leadership

Johathan Rosenberg is product chief at Google, at least for now. He turned in his resignation last week when the new plans from Larry Page became clear within Google. Rosenberg is a highly respected leader within Google. So he should be worth it to listen to when he talks about leadership. He did so at a CMC event about a month ago. He discusses responsible leadership using his experiences as a senior vice president at Google. Interesting insights.
