A Pause on the Newsletter to Create a Better One

play pause

Back when we first started sending out a newsletter we had the idea we wanted to do it properly and create not ‘just’ a newsletter with a feed, but to give you fresh content each month in a nicely formatted way. Content which you would not find on the blog so it was exclusively for those reading the newsletter.

Somewhere along the line we however lost track of where we were going with the newsletter and we ended up just sending the weekly update ones. And although the weekly update can be handy if you are not all the time coming back to the website to read about the latest articles, it is not what we want to broadcast to the world.

So as one of our many New Years Resolutions we decided it was about time to update the newsletter. Make it special again, give you choices on what you want to see in the newsletter and make it special for everyone who reads it. To do that we need some time and although we could just continue to keep sending out the weekly updates we decided not to and pause those to take the time to create a stunning new one. Why? Because we believe we should send you relevant stuff, good stuff. And we think we can do better.

So if you are a subscriber, in the next few weeks you won’t be receiving a newsletter, but do not unsubscribe in the meantime because you will be missing out on some fantastic new ones soon! And if you haven’t subscribed yet, be sure to do so because then you will be certain you will receive our new fully updated newsletter once it is ready. You can sign up below!

In the meantime make sure you follow our Twitterfeed, Facebook Page and / or Google+ Page to make sure you are not missing out on any of the great content (or subscribe to our RSS off course).

But we want to know what YOU want

While creating the new newsletter we are listening to what the readers (that’s you!) want. So we created a small form below for you to give us your input on what you want in a newsletter, that way we can make it perfect for you!

Signing up?

Don’t want to miss out on that great new newsletter? Make sure you sign up already to not miss our first new updated newsletter!

Are you a designer?

Finally, are you a designer and do you think you can do a better job and have a cool format for us? Let us know and show us what you’ve got and who knows we might be using your format!

State of Search: our first year ends and the future begins

This post was originally written for the State of Search newsletter. If you want to receive unique content in your mailbox and get an overview of the best posts on State of Search first, subscribe to our newsletter here.

It’s February 2010 when State of Search for the very first time publishes to the world. We chose SES London 2010 to be the place we would tell the world there was a new blog out there. The initiative from me and Lisa was originally meant to be a place where we could publish our own stuff but very soon the first bloggers who wanted to join in showed up. Louis, Sam and Nichola were amongst the first to be part of a team which would grow very rapidly.

The team

Which brings me to the blogging team. There is no doubt whatsoever that the success of this blog has been all made by the bloggers. At State of Search we are not looking at how big the name is from someone who comes to blog with us, we look at their potential. We love to have youngsters eager to share their knowledge and open up to the world. And I think we’ve succeeded in that. The team has produced some fabulous content and has proven itself to also be a real time: we are all friends, even though some of us have never met. Note: in the coming two weeks I will be highlighting the bloggers here on the site, so keep your eyes open for that! (more…)

Are you a State of Search fan? Register, follow and fan!

If we take a look at our statistics we do not only see a steady growth in number of visitors. What we see most is that most of our visitors are returning visitors. Wit the website being only a few months old its obvious that search traffic will grow in time, but the fact that we have so many returning visitors, who on top of returning, all spent quite the amount of time on the website strengthens our vision. Our articles are not only clicked on, they are read fully!

So, all the loyal ‘fans’ out there who aren’t already: you can support us! By becoming a loyal follower on Twitter (and thus get notified of not only new post but also interesting content from around the web), becoming a fan on Facebook or subscribing to our newsletter!

The newsletter (check out the first one we sent two weeks back) will have mostly original content in there, content not (yet) published on the website. So its a must-register!
