6 Key Insights from the International Search Summit Munich

International Search Summit Munich

Last week, it was time once again for the International Search Summit @ SMX Munich, which was a day filled with insights, ideas and tactics for the international web marketer.

My role there was organiser rather than blogger, so the need to pop out of the room to check the internet connection, call a speaker and make sure lunch was being served (very important!), meant I wasn’t able to hear all the speakers in full. But I certainly heard enough to share some of the key takeaways and insights from the day.

Poot, Poot: The International Search Summit Drives Into Town

ISS

It’s hard to report back from a conference with an overview: if you weren’t at the conference, unless there was a huge buzz, few people are going to spend time trying to catch up after the event. This, therefore, could be the post that no-one reads. Which is a shame, because International search is difficult. There are few specialists out there, so best guess is even harder than with genuine ‘local’ search.

International search is broad church, the lessons from one site may not apply to all, the number of approaches is huge, and the range of budgets is vast. An already small – international- conversation is further fragmented by the fact that Google’s algorithm rolls out in different countries at different speeds.

International SEO: A few thoughts on the topic of best practice

Title-300x300

As you may have read in Jackie’s excellent summary post on the International Search Summit, I spoke there last week on all things international and SEO. I thought I’d jot down a few of my own personal thoughts for you lucky State of Search readers in the wake of this. This is predominately on one topic. Wrap Up of the International Search Summit – ISS London 2011

iss-logo

The International Search Summit took place in London at the British Library on November 24th 2011. Having been to ISS New York earlier in the year, I thought it would be hard to top , but the UK session surpassed expectations with not only an impressive line up, but high level delegates from the world of international search.

Each session one was a gem in it’s own right. If you haven’t yet booked on to an ISS I recommend it, as it could just give you an insight into strategy that you may not be using for your less global campaigns. (more…)

international-search-summit

The International Search Summit took place for the very first time in New York September 12th 2011 in association with SMX East at the Sheraton New York. Organised by Web Certain, the conference focused on multinational SEO & international Markets and was presented by an impressive line-up of speakers including Bill Hunt & Andy Atkins-Krüger

Sessions were fast paced and covered a lot of information for SEO’s regarding international search & project management from the ground up, what to consider, and a lot about what not to do with regards to Google Translate!

Topics included: strategic planning, SEM project management, global search & social trends, Geo-targeting, cultural differences, and fast growing markets such as Russia and Korea. Finishing off with interactive breakout sessions for either SEO or PPC for 1-to-1 Q&A.

Being new to international search, I found the day invaluable and was left wanting to know more about global markets and where else I should start to think about targeting.

Yet Another Index? Making an Impact in Russa – International Search Summit 2011 #SMXISS

Next up is Preston Carey, Business Development Director at Yandex, giving us an insight into the Russian search engine. Firstly an introduction and some context around the Russian market.

Markets in the developed countries are not really growing very much anymore, the two places that are booming are Russia and Asia. Russia is the seventh largest market in terms on internet users, sitting just behind Germany. Russia only has 43% internet penetration at the moment but it is growing hugely year-on-year so could easily be taking over Germany within the next 18 months. (more…)

International Search Summit keeps expanding in cooperation with SMX

ISS-intro

One event which has been growing rapidly is the International Search Summit (ISS). The conference originally started of in London but it has been organized in both London, Berlin and Seattle in the past few years. And the organization keeps on expanding. In 2011 they are now joining forces with SMX to give that little extra touch to the conferences. International search has been very much underrated in the big search events. With the combination between ISS and SMX both will win. ISS will reach the bigger audience and SMX will get that valuable information from the International scene.

The International Search Summit is a conference series dedicated to international and multilingual search marketing and brings together some of the leading search marketing experts from around the globe. Conceived and hosted by multilingual web marketing agency WebCertain, it has been running since 2008 and from 2011 WebCertain is partnering with SMX to run the Summit at SMX events across Europe and North America.

The show will this year be organized in San José, Munich, London, Seattle and New York. (more…)
