A Perspective on the SEO Industry

SEO-Industry-Survey-intro

A very interesting infographic today, all about the search industry. This infographic was created by Datadial.net based on a Twitter survey they performed a few weeks ago.

They asked 22 questions about working in SEO, from where the SEOs are based to ‘do you buy links’ and “Have you ever had a site penalized?”. The results are made into this infographic. A very nice way of doing a survey and presenting the results. (more…)

Link building do’s and dont’s: when to Hold and Fold

LinkBuildingDosandDonts

I once wrote two articles explaining what link builders should and more importantly should not do when trying to get a link from a blogger. I still think many link builders should read that because I still get many crappy e-mails. But there are more ways of looking at the do’s and dont’s for link building.

Like for example the poker-angle. Now poker sites simply love their links so this is one way of getting them, making a nice infographic, but it also is some nice information about what you should and should not do as a link builder. (more…)

Google Killed The Long Tail

Google-Longtail-Infographic-intro

SEOBook has a very nice set of infographics which they publish regularly. This one is all about how Google killed the long tail with stuff like Google Instant, localization, updates like Mayday and Panda, verticals, scrapers and the ‘not provided’ keywords.

Are they right? (more…)

An Average Day On Facebook

An-Average-Day-on-Facebook

Most internet marketers can hardly imagine a life without Facebook anymore. Even more youngsters would probably not know what to do with their lifes when there was no Facebook. Facebook is their life.

But what do people actually Do on Facebook? Do they share, read or just like stuff? This infographic looks at what people actually do on Facebook. Did you know for example that ‘only’ 26% of users ‘like’ another users content, where 53% actually comments on other peoples content? Gives you a different view on the importance of likes doesn’t it?

Is Content Still King?

content-for-seo-intro

Content is King, it is something many marketers will say, and its also something many SEOs will say. Some over-rate it however by saying that if you “just” put up enough content, you will be fine.

Content will remain one of the, if not the, important elements in optimizing. This infographic looks at why content is important for SEO. (more…)

It’s All about Authority Building, but how?

authority-building-machine-intro

Earlier this week I posted about Klout, how you should ignore services like that because they don’t give you accurate enough information about specific people. Off course what Klout represents is a trend: we are trying to get a grip on authority. And we are trying to become authorities ourselves, because that might just help us become more important.

So the next question is: how do we build that authority? I actually think that it has much more to do with how knowledgable you are and how hard you work than how visible you are, but ok. This infographic looks at authority building. (more…)

Google, Algorithm Changes and Brands

brands-seo-book

Maybe you have noticed that many of Google’s algorithm changes in the past have been focussed on getting attention for brands. Even in their latests update, they seem to be favoring brands by giving us “Better “Official” Page Detection & Boosting”.

SEOBook made this nice infographic to show us some history and perspective on the way Google looks at brands in their search results. (more…)

How To Build Those Links (infographic)

how-build-links-infographic-intro

Linkbuilding, it still is (one of) the most important aspects of optimization for search engines. There will not be many SEO’s who will disagree there. But as simple as it sounds: “Get links!”, it is not easy. Linkbuilding takes time and effort.

Many also don’t know where to start. Will I be sending out tons of non-personalized e-mails? Will I be buying the links? Or will I be begging for them? This infographic could be a start. Or would the linkbuilders amongst us disagree on that..? What do you think? (more…)

What and Why Facebook Users “Like”

facebook-like

We all want likes! As much as possible! As quickly as possible! This discussion is one which we could talk about for hours: do likes really matter? Maybe not as much as we think? Or maybe we are making them important by wanting them?

But since we’ve decided we want as many as possible likes as we can, we might as well figure out how to get them. And chances are that if you know what people usually “like” you also know what they might “like”. (more…)

Is Google A Monopoly?

google-monopoly-intro

The game Monopoly is about one thing: get as much property as you can. Make sure nobody can beat you and make sure that you will earn the most money. In ‘real’ business however that is not allowed. If you become too powerful, they will try to stop you.

Microsoft has had accusations of being a monopolist and now Google is also under fire. But are they really? This infographic might give you an idea. (more…)

How Facebook Affects Your Relationships

Facebook-relationships-intro

We’ve all seen it happen. You change your relationship status on Facebook and everybody is all over you. Even if you have been married for 10 years and never filled that in on Facebook and you do know, people will think you just got married!

But there is more. Did you know that you can filter between the different kind of people on Facebook? Do married people post differently than singles for example? And does Facebook actually have an influence on your relationship? This infographic goes into that topic.

5 simple-but-effective SEO/Social tactics I’ve seen over the last month..

blindfolded

Happy All-Hallow’s Day State of Searchers! Or All Saints Day for those that prefer. Let’s start this post with a little ‘Did You Know’ fact just to ensure it is educational from top to bottom. So, did you know…

“In Western Christian theology, All Saints Day commemorates all those who have attained the beatific vision in Heaven.” (Thank you wikipedia). That sounds pretty special to me, a vision of happiness, perfection and clarity. One can dream eh.  But on that note, how about a little happiness and clarity closer to home? SEO heaven?

Yes that is my rather awkward seguing into the main event, some great examples of simple linkbait or visibility tactics that I’ve seen in the past few weeks. Rather than theorise or show amazing examples/ideas that are nearly impossible for the average company to implement, I thought I’d share some examples of marketing tactics that I’ve been impressed with recently simply because they were so very, well, simple. (more…)
