Google Launch Help for Hacked Sites

Having your site hacked is one of the most difficult things for a website owner to face. If your site has been compromised you will know that it can take time and effort that you may not have to ‘clean up’.

Help is on it’s way however as Google yesterday launched their Help Center for Hacked Sites. The help centre is a dedicated informational resource and series of step by step instructional videos to help you deal with site insecurities, identify any vulnerability,  fix the problem and go through the review process. Google’s engineer Pierre Far has been very active in the past year being an advocate for Google and for ‘Good SEO’. He has been speaking on many different conferences, he has been active on Google+ and he has been doing a lot of Webmaster Central “Office Hours” hangouts.

In these hangouts Pierre (or another Googler) discusses a specific topic. He explains what Google is doing and he answers question. A very informative way of connecting to the search industry. If you ever have the chance on joining one of the hangouts I would suggest you do, it can be informative.

Does Linking to “Bad” Sites Hurt You? Cutts Says No to an Extent

Bad links, there is a lot of discussion going around them at the moment with Panda and Penguin fresh in our memories. And with all the ‘outing’ going on, you better watch your steps right?

The question asked to Matt Cutts in his latest Webmasterhelp videos “What happens if I link to a good page that later becomes spammy?” therefore is one where the answer is listened to carefully by many SEOs.

The question is whether or not a site you link to, which used to have good content before, now turns ‘spumy’, will have a bad influence on your rankings. The answer? Cutts says ‘not to worry’, at least as long its not too many of these kind of links.

Google’s Matt Cutts on Malware

If there is success there are is always the possibility that someone wants a piece of the pie. The same goes for ‘big audiences’. The bigger the audience, the bigger the chance that somebody would live to take advantage of that audience.

That is the core for hackers. They like to focus on mass, because that is the place where they are most likely to succeed. And that is where malware comes from. When your site gets ‘hit’ by malware, Google will not like that and it could affect your visibility in search engines. So you have to be careful not to get hacked. There are many things to look out for in that matter. Google has made a video in which they try to help you get started protecting your site.
