Eric Schmidt named Media Person of the Year

eric-schmidt-google

Now what if you were CEO of a big company and wanted to become “Media Person of the Year”. What would you do? Show up in the press a lot off course. And be controversial. Maybe that is what brought Eric Schmidt to his several epic quotes.

Or it is just a coincidence. What is happening is that Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, has been named Media Person of the Year by the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. (more…)

Page’s first days in office: Product chief Jonathan Rosenberg resigns

jonathan-rosenberg

Starting this week things at Google are different. We’ve known for a few months now that Eric Schmidt would be stepping down as CEO and Larry Page would be taking over. This week that change is being made. No more quotes from Schmidt but we won’t be bored with Page’s renewed reign if signals are right. In his first week we see in the upcoming departure of product chief Jonathan Rosenberg.

Let’s make one thing clear: Page did not fire Rosenberg. Jonathan Rosenberg was asked, together with the other executives, to long-term, multiyear commitment plan about their future at the company. Rosenberg stated that he had always planned to step down in 2013 because then his daughter would go to college. He didn’t feel planning ahead would then make sense. (more…)

Eric Schmidt about leadership

We share presentations from Eric Schmidt more often here at State of Search. He is a good speaker after all, and there is always something interesting he might be saying. And when Eric Schmidt talks about leadership you should keep your ears open, because that is a subject he knows all about.

Google Futuresight: The Future of Privacy Rights

This article is the first of a series dealing with privacy, technology, and where we are all headed.

So, what does the future hold?

One of the favorite pastimes of SEO specialists the world over has got to be the art/science of Google speculation. Like extremely dense chocolate cake, however, it is not always advisable to indulge in it to overdose, and there is a significant chance that doing so may result in headaches, nausea, and the definite feeling of quiet overwhelm at forces beyond your control. Google is taking political steps towards EU regulators

google-political-thinking

We’ve said it before, we will be missing Eric Schmidt when he finally steps down as CEO of Google in a few months. But he is still here. And he doesn’t seem to feel any need at all to stop adding quotes to his already impressive list.

This weekend he apparently told the UK Newspaper The Sunday Telegraph that Google might be willing to make changes to their algorithm methodology. This time it is not a ‘scary’ quote, but to say the least an interesting statement. It is another sign of Google getting more and more political with their moves.

The original article doesn’t literally quote Schmidt saying they would be willing to, but the indication is there. Google told Searchengineland that even though Schmidt didn’t literally say it like that it is not unthinkable, after all, Google already changes their algorithm often. And in some cases because of complaints. It is therefore possible that Google might make changes based on concerns from the EU. Still, if Google does make those changes, it would be very interesting since it would be changes made because of regulations-complaints, not complaints from a business. Whether or not Google really will make any changes remains to be seen. For now the fact that they are hinting at it may be enough. (more…)

Eric Schmidt speaking at DLD

Last week Eric Schmidt made a presence at the DLD conference in Munich. The Germans were very excited to have the almost ex-CEO of Google on stage. It is there that he announced that Google is expanding in Europe. And not just in London, they are also growing in Germany.

In his talk he adresses the next decade. And you have to admit: he is a good speaker. He had a nice quote again, children are either asleep or online..

Top 15 of Eric Schmidt’s Remarkable Quotes

Eric-Schmidt-quotes

Mr Eric Schmidt, now former CEO of Google, is making a habit out of getting quotes into the media which are to say the least ‘interesting’. In some cases they are plain stupid, in other cases remarkable and sometimes predictable.

One ‘slip of the tongue” on CNN, “Streetview the cars we drive only once, you can just move, right?” was corrected by the pr-department of Google who had Schmidt say he “misspoked”. But this surely wasn’t the only ‘mistake’ by Schmidt. Its interesting (and fun) to look back at some quotes of Schmidt in the past year to see how many times he has now said “something remarkable”.

1. “We know where you are. We know where you’ve been. We can more or less know what you’re thinking about.”

Don’t like Streetview? “You can move” Eric Schmidt jokes on CNN…

It is becoming some sort of a running gag. Eric Schmidt showing up in tv shows, at conferences or at press conferences and then trying to be funny. And unfortunately for him, a lot of the times the jokes are misunderstood. And for a reason.

Though Mr Schmidt I think “in real life” most probably is a funny guy and his jokes might do very well in a bar or at a birthday party, I do think that the CEO of Google should choose his jokes more carefully when he is making a public appearance. His timing sometimes just seems to be wrong. Even though personally I like it, I’m not so sure it’s the best way to go for Google. Last Friday “he did it again”. In an interview at CNN he said about those not liking Streetview “You can move…”. See the interview here: (more…)

Eric Schmidt at TechCrunch disrupt

Eric Schmidt is all over the place these days. You can hardly miss him anymore. But still he manages to do different talks on different places. Here we see him talk at the TechCrunch Disrupt event last month. Het talked about how he sees the future of the web. He believes search will be there without even using the search engine: autonomous search. He called it the “Serendipity Engine”. Sit back and listen to what he had to say in San Francisco a few weeks ago:

Schmidt does it again: “The Laws Are Written by Lobbyists”

It more and more looks as if Eric Schmidt is trying to get as much attention as possible by delivering remarkable quotes. At the Washington Ideas Forum last week he did it again.

“Washington is an incumbent protection machine,” Schmidt said. “Technology is fundamentally disruptive.” With his quote against lobbyists, “The Laws Are Written by Lobbyists”, he definitely has not made many friends, no matter how right he may be.

The quote:
