To start us off, Ali walked through what Visitor level call tracking actually was; as one of the many who weren’t really sure, he explained that T W White & Sons used visitor level call tracking to provide a unique phone number to each site visitor so the business can better track who is calling to give stronger actual conversion data as well as a better customer profile. Go Big or Go Home – #brightonseo

Big Content Gambling

One of the opening talks for BrightonSEO promised to be a really interesting one. Hannah Smith, Principal Consultant at Distilled (and one of our own State of Search bloggers) challenged the common perspective of link building, and told the conference attendees to ‘Go big or go home’.

Hannah’s talk identified a number of misguided ways of thinking, ultimately tackling why mediocre content is unlikely to cut it. But she also took the time to recognise that there are risks associated with big budget content. Find out more about her talk and see her slides below. (more…)

Friday Talk: ‘Ask the Engines’ Discussion Panel at Brighton SEO

The next Brighton SEO was announced last week: September 14th 2012. A good place to be for every SEO in the industry. As a ‘warm up’ find below the discussion panel from the last Brighton SEO called “Ask the Engines”, a discussion between Pierre Far (Google), Dave Coplin (Bing), Martin MacDonald (Expedia EAN), Rishi Lakhani (Freelance) and Tony Goldstone (FreshEgg).

This Year At Brighton SEO

One of our bloggers, Kelvin Newman, is the organizer and the big man behind Brighton SEO. This event has grown to be the number one free SEO event in the UK and possibly even Europe.

The last Brighton SEO again was a big hit with some great speakers and the fabulous networking opportunities. On Social Media events can go crazy as well. Just how successful and crazy a conference like that can be on social media is shown in this infographic below. (more…)

Brighton SEO – one hell of a FREE Search Conference #BrightonSEO

brighton-seo-logo

Friday the 13th, a packed schedule, awesome speakers, 20 x 20 Pecha Kucha, a new use for Pinterest, Street Fighter, Swingball, Magicians, and the launching of a new website on stage… closely followed by Chips, Beer on the Pier and Karaoke can only mean one thing – yup – Brighton SEO!

Brainchild of State of Searcher Kelvin Newman, Brighton SEO kicked off on the Thursday with a series of training workshops including; PR Link Building (Chris Lee – VP of Digital, Emanate PR) , Advanced GA (Dara Fitzgerald – Head of Insight, FreshEgg), and an intro to coding (Dom Hodgson – CEO, Ember Ads). The conference itself took place on Friday with a format of one-speaker-after-another, meaning that you could sit through all talks, in comfort, nipping out for complementary coffee as and when.

This was the first time I have been to Brighton SEO and what a lovely surprise! Firstly, I was lucky to get a ticket seeing as they ‘sold’ out in a record number of minutes, secondly the conference had the same level of speaker that I have seen at many other paid conferences (but this one was FREE and friendly), and thirdly, this all took place in the beautiful Georgian building that is the Brighton Dome – let’s face it, sitting in a darkened theatre on plush velvet seats adds an atmosphere and charm that is unrivalled on the conference circuit. Combine that with pre lunchtime cabaret in the form of Magic Sam and you have your perfect seaside weekender! (more…)

The Best Bits of Brighton SEO – September 2011

brighton-SEO-logo

On Friday 9th September over 500 search marketers met at The Corn Exchange in Brighton for BrightonSEO. It was my first time attending this event, and in comparison with some of the pricier conferences, was definitely one of the best.

Kelvin Newman from Site Visibility has been running this free SEO conference since December 2009 where he started it alongside Jaamit Durrani who sadly passed away last year. The conference was a great success thanks to Kelvin, Amelia, all the speakers and the sponsors of the event. (more…)
