Is Live Tweeting & Blogging Ruining Search Marketing Conferences?

tweet-wall

First up I need declare a bunch of caveats, I’ve spoken at loads of search marketing events, I arrange one and have attended absolutely loads of them. So take my following opinion and bias with a pinch of salt…but I’m really starting to wonder whether live blogging and particularly live tweeting is making the digital marketing conference a worse experience.

People not at the conference may really appreciate the play by play coverage but I think the whole phenomenon isn’t helping anyone, especially those who have paid—in many cases—hundreds of pounds to attend. (more…)

State of Search readers also read Searchengineland and Searchenginewatch

blog

A little over ten days ago I started a small poll asking which other blogs you as a State of Search reader also read. Not as a contest, but to get an insight into what kind of visitors we have. I’m gonna be dropping more questions like that onto you. Simply because I want to make sure that at State of Search we deliver the best possible content fitting for our readers. We want to grab your intent so to speak ;) .

I will also share the results of the polls with you. This first poll didn’t get a very high response (aren’t you reading other blogs? ;) ). But hey, its a start. Looking at the results we see that Searchengineland, followed by Searchenginewatch, the Dave Naylor blog and SEOMoz are the most read blogs amongst our readers. The results: (more…)

Poll: what other search blogs do you read?

blog

If you would take a peek at my RSS Reader some of you might be surprised of the amount of search blogs in there. I read many. My guess is many of you do too. We’d like to know which ones you read. Not as a contest, but out of interest into what the readers of State of Search “triggers”. And what beter way than to ask you?

In this poll (which, I repeat is NOT a contest) we have listed 15 blogs for you to choose from and one “other” option. These 15 have been randomly picked. If you really like to tell us which others you read, do leave a comment below. The poll will be up in the sidebar for the next period. We will off course share the results. So please vote, either to the right —> or below here:  (more…)

Special Advertisement opportunities on State of Search at SES London 2011

event-page

As you know we are covering SES London 2011. We’ve already started doing that with the speakers interviews and you can expect a lot more from us at SES, not just because we do postings, but we will also be trying to broadcast live from SES (if the connection works with us). We’ll be every where, on the radio, on Twitter, on the site. You name it.

SES will be a week in which we will see a lot of extra traffic on State of Search. We’re already doing great, but we’re expecting a lot more in that week. And we’d like to offer you a piece of that pie. And in the mean time you’ll be helping the site produce the best stuff we can give you!

We are offering a special advertisement opportunity during SES London. See below our different options. But the best part of it is: it is cheaper than ever, with a huge discount and you are not “stuck” to it, it’s only for that specific week if you want. (more…)

Get your comments, by Facebook: Social Network preparing commenting system

post-comment-to-facebook

Facebook has big plans. The Social Network is slowly but surely moving away from ‘just’ being a Social Network into becoming a controller of the web. It looks remarkably like the path Google has taken: each time make more services which are available outside of your territory.

Now Cnet reports that Facebook is planning to launch a new service which will not be running on the Social Network itself, but as a third party service. In a few weeks it is said that Facebook will be launching a third-party commenting system. This system would allow blogs to be using Facebook’s commenting system on their website. (more…)

Bloggers highlight: Sam Crocker (@samuelcrocker)

Sam Crocker

The bloggers who really make this blog deserve some attention and that is what we’re doing this week. This week I highlighted all the bloggers going up to the new year. See what they wrote, look at how their year was and what their expectations are. A digital thank you for their work.

Last but not at all least is Sam Crocker, our very own American! Though if you hear him you wouldn’t know that because he sound as British as most of the other bloggers here. Why is Sam last in this list? Well because he came in last :) . Just before his move from Distilled to OMD.

Today is the last female blogger (of which we have way to few) who gets the attention: Annabel Hodges. Annabel joined us with a love letter, which was a stunning post to open with. This talented young lady is very well respected in the UK search market and we are very proud to have her on board!
