3 Years of State of Search: Happy Birthday to a Great Blog (and win!)

3year-birthday-featured

Last Saturday marked a special day. On that day 3 years ago we published our very first article (in which we even mentioned Google Buzz, wow!). Three years ago we were at the first day of SES London (which again takes place this week), and I remember sitting with a group of brand new State of Search blogger around a round table bashing out the first articles. If I am correct Lisa Myers was there, Sam Murray, Louis Venter and Nichola Stott. Today we write (this one!) our 2300 th article.

Three years later we are the most successful search blog and Europe, knocking on doors of becoming one of the most important blogs world wide. An incredible adventure started there three years ago and we are now making plans for a very interesting and bright future. For now we’d like to thank you for reading our articles and thank the 38 bloggers for their excellent material of the years. Here’s to the future!

5 State of Search Bloggers Amongst 50 Most Influential in UK

2013-topuk-onlinemarketing-influencers-blog

We know we have a great blogging team, but it is always good to get recognition from the industry and to hear someone else saying you did a good job. That’s why we were proud to have won the European Searchaward last year and to have bloggers win in specific categories in the UK Searchawards both this and last year and we were proud of Aleyda, winning the poll of European Search Personality on Peter’s blog.

Now we have something else to be proud of: TopRank Online Marketing Blog yesterday published a (constantly changing) list of “Top UK Online Marketing Influencers & Bloggers in 2013“. On that list, next to several people who have guest posted for us in the past, we find no less than five State of Search bloggers!

The five bloggers are Paddy Moogan (ranked 18), Sam Noble (ranked 22), Hannah Smith (ranked 23), James Carson (ranked 38) and Bas van den Beld (ranked 5). The list itself is lead by UK Search Personality of the year Dixon Jones and has some familiar names like Kevin Gibbons, Andrew Betts, Dave Naylor, Rishi Lakhani, Andrew Girdwood and many more on there. Google Must Reveal Which Bloggers They Pay

bribe-envelope

Well this is going to be interesting. Google and Oracle have been ordered by a US judge to reveal which bloggers they have paid. They have to open up which bloggers are ‘on the payroll’ before August 17.

The ruling comes out of a hearing about intellectual property in court. The judge is concerned that any payments done to bloggers or journalists might have influenced analysis about the companies.

Google has already told the BBC it will comply with the order, which means they will be telling the judge, and with that the rest of the world, who they have paid. (more…)

Link Building Through Blogger Outreach

TOPSHOTS

Last week I was kindly invited to speak at the latest Search London meetup in London which is organised by Jo Turnbull. The topic I spoke about was Link Building through Blogger Outreach.  I know that this is an area that many people are interested in so I wanted to turn my slides into a blog post which will hopefully help many of you who build links.

Being honest about link building, it isn’t that easy. But it can be made easier with the right processes and the right tools. I’m going to outline a process for content based link building which will include the use of a number of tools.
