Last month I had the pleasure to talk at ISS London and to attend SMX.

Along the years I attended many conferences, but that was my first SMX; I have spoken in quite many congresses too, but that was the first time I was going to do it in front of an English speaking audience in UK, so I was quite nervous.

Luckily everything’s went fine, everything but…

Yes, there is a but, a big but.

In the SMX program was scheduled a panel about “Content” and, you should know it already, I am quite passionate about everything Content. And I was sure speakers were going to talk about Authorship and AuthorRank, which are two topics I am very interested about (my talk too at ISS was partly about them). (more…)

Google Authorship Profiles: No Verification Needed?

Google and authority. It clearly is going to play a larger role in the search result pages in the coming months. Where your average search page used to be ‘just 10 blue links’ and Universal Search already brought images and videos to the search results pages, the rel=author is bringing the authority to the result pages.

To help webmasters get the profiles of their authors visible in the search results Google created what is called the “rel=author tag” which allows webmasters to tell Google who is the author of the page.

For the author snippet and image to show up the “rel=author tag” should be implemented properly. It however now seems that Google can figure all that out themselves. A guest poster got linked to a post without verification.  (more…)

More emphasis on Author Rank by Google: More Author results

We have covered already quite a bit on author rank this week. First there were the e-mails Google is sending out to authors and earlier today Jeroen wrote a great extensive post on the importance of Authorship. That could be enough for one week, but we didn’t want to hold this back from you.

Google has confirmed to Searchengineland that it is now not just showing the authorship markup and showing the ‘more post by’ link, but it is also showing three extra posts from the author when a user comes back to the search results, provided it seems as if they really liked the post they were just reading.
