State of Search radioshow – episode 45: Bing’s Stefan Weitz about copying, Bing in Europe and more

Bing is the second largest search engine in the world. And Google seems to be feeling the heat of the Microsoft search engine, given their fierce reactions to the alleged copying of search results. Last week we had Danny Sullivan discussing this topic on our radioshow. This week it was Bing’s turn to talk on our radioshow.

We were very happy to discuss all sorts of different matters about Bing. We started of with discussing why it is taking Bing so long to get to Europe and moved on to how Bing uses user intent, where even super computer Watson came by. Stefan also talked about Google’s accusations last week of copying results.

The State of Search Radioshow is becoming more popular every week. And not just with the listeners, also with the guests. They are lining up to be part of the show which airs every Tuesday on Webmasterradio.

Last week the show had Danny Sullivan on as a guest and this week there is another great name we can add to our impressive list of guests: Stefan Weitz of Bing.

Stefan Weitz is the director of Bing. He is the person if you want to know anything about Bing. So we’ll be asking him everything we possibly can about Bing’s strategy, when they will be coming to Europe, their copying skills and the difference between them and their competitors. (more…)

mike-grehan-ses-london-2011

SES London 2011 is approaching rapidly and if you have a ticket or planning to get one you might be wondering: what sessions should I go to, what is interesting?

The obvious answer to that is: everything is and pick what fits you most. But you won’t get much further with that kind of information. So I asked the person who can tell us best what is in the program to highlight and pinpoint some sessions for you: the one who set up the program, Mike Grehan. (more…)

State of Search radioshow – episode 44: Danny Sullivan about Google vs Bing

In this very special episode of our radioshow on Webmasterradio we were very happy to welcome Danny Sullivan as our guest. As you know Danny last week broke the story on the accusations from Google towards Bing that they were copying their search results. So in the second part of the show Danny talked to Bas and Roy about that story, how he got the story, what his thoughts were and more. A must listen for every search marketer out there.

Next to the talk with Danny Bas and Roy also discussed the number of blogs in Europe and Roy had his rant of the week about newspapers and online.

State of Search brings Danny Sullivan back to Webmasterradio

danny-sullivan-webmasterradio

For me he is the original connection to Webmasterradio. For many years Danny Sullivan hosted the Dailysearchcast on Webmasterradio, bringing us the latest on what was happening in the fast moving world of search marketing. The for Danny very time consuming show ended late 2008. And I think there are still many search marketers out there who miss that show.

But tonight for the very first time in over a year Danny Sullivan will return to Webmasterradio. On our very own State of Search radioshow we talk to Danny about the story which has dominated the search world in the last week: the Google-Bing debate on copying search results. Danny originally brought that story on Searchengineland and then saw the story go world wide, even reaching international press. (more…)

State of Search radioshow – episode 43: Bing cheating Google? with @samuelcrocker

Bas and Roy were joined again by State of Search blogger Sam Crocker from OMD.

The first part of the discussion mainly was around the article which Danny Sullivan posted on Searchengineland about Bing cheating Google. But also SES London 2011, media and Facebook Stories got some attention in this show which also saw a great impersonation of Roy by Brasco.

With Bas not being able to make the show this week Roy was joined by his good friend Entrepreneurial Merchandiser Richard Theuws, who had previously joined Roy in May 2010.

The show was an entertaining one in which many topics came by with Search and Net Neutrality as the main factors, plus Google Voice introduces a new major feature: Number Porting.

Also, Joost De Valk drops in to announce a two day conference taking place on the day before and the day of Queens Day in the Netherlands: SEO Royale.

State of Search radioshow – episode 41: With @lisadmyers about Facebook/Bing Scams, Google Places and more

We were very happy to welcome back to the show co-founder of State of Search, Lisa Myers, who had been away on a maternity leave. She brought a nice ‘fire’ to the show. Welcome back Lisa!

The show this week handled a lot of ‘issues’: A Facebook advertiser who seems to be an affiliate of Bing, Facebook giving away phone numbers and the state of Google Places.
