The end of the year is approaching rapidly so it is time to start counting down to the New Years. And I always like to do that in a special way. Because this blog is something special. Special because the authors of this blog are not only very smart people who write great content, but also very nice people who all have one thing in common: they have a specific drive and they are genuine.
The State of Search team is set up with a lot of caution: you have to fit into the team and you have to be someone who is open and honest. That is what our team is about. And that is why I want to highlight them (in random order). Now it is time for our next blogger: Nichola Stott
What post are you are most proud of this year?
I’m most proud of a detailed piece of analysis I did following the roll-out of Panda 1.0 in the UK. SearchMetrics and Sistrix produced separate visibility analyses immediately after the Panda impact, which showed that price comparison sites were most widely affected. My post was a critique of impact-by-visibility, based on first-hand experience of working with pretty much all of the major price comparison sites.
What was your (personal or business, or both) highlight of 2011?
Highlight of the year for me was persuading Peter Handley to join theMediaFlow as search director. As a boutique agency I want to manage growth and quality at the same time, so getting the right person was extremely important. Whilst I’d been looking for at least a year as soon as Pete and I started talking seriously we both knew this would be the right fit.
What are you ‘wishing’ for 2012?
I’m wishing that Google get smarter (algorithmically) at detecting and tuning down poor-quality tactics. It’s frustrating that despite how sophisticated and strategic a campaign may be, in some sectors one may still be competing with lazy, poor-quality tactics.
A personal thought about Nichola
Nichola has been part of our team since the start of State of Search. I even remember interviewing Nichola when she joined SEO Chicks on our radioshow. She was a tiny bit nervous then, but that will not happen again soon. I’ve seen her grow to immense hight in the past few years. Simply because she is a very, very smart lady who knows her stuff, but also because she is very social. And with that I don’t mean that she Tweets or Facebooks a lot.
You can leave it to Nichola to get people together and do stuff. Her role in the WWF Campaign The Panda made me do it (Shall We Do Something Together?) is an example of that and is something I admire her for. It’s a very good quality to have.
Next to that she is one hell of a blogger who not only keeps her content here on State of Search, but also on Searchenginewatch and SEO Chicks, though she should save her best stuff for us, right?
Nichola, have a great 2012 and let your company Mediaflow rock like it did in 2011, together with Claire and Peter. And don’t you ever leave us .
