Over the next three days we will be running  a series of interviews with the trainers at the BrightonSEO workshops. If you haven’t booked a place yet, do so soon as tickets are selling out fast.

In the first interview of the week, we spoke to Tim Grice, Head of Search at Branded3 and Dara Fitzgerald, Head of Insight at FreshEgg.

Tim will be running a workshop on one of the hottest topics over the last six months, Penalty Recovery and Future Proofing SEO Strategies. If you are attending this workshop, you can expect to walk away packed full of knowledge about what links are ‘unnatural’, what an effective recovery would look like and how to develop a strategy for your link building that will stand with you through the test of time.

Dara is focusing on advanced techniques you can use with Google Analytics which will help attendees get more insight out of campaigns and ensure they can measure campaigns more transparently. Some of the core features that Dara will be looking at include Advanced Segments, Event Tracking, Cross Domain Tracking, Custom Reports and more. To book your place, click here.

Tim Grice – Penalty Recovery Workshop

1. What can attendees expect to learn?

How to correctly diagnose link penalties and what action to take to recover from them. Also how to future proof their link building moving forward, integrating outreach with PR and social channels for a more natural link acquisition strategy.

2. What is the one thing from your workshop which people will be talking about when they leave?

The fact that the Google disavow tool works and that you can recover from even the most severe manual penalties. I am going to use a lot of case studies in the workshop, so it should provide great insight.

3. What interested you most about running this workshop at BrightonSEO?

I feel there is a general lack of knowledge in the SEO sphere regarding penalty recovery. There are so many mixed messages out there, and it’s making SEO’s nervous about link removal and disavowing. I want to show some very clear examples of how it works, and why you shouldn’t be worried about removing bad links.

4. If you had to give away one penalty recovery tip, what would it be?

When using the disavow tool to remove links, focus on disavowing at a domain level whenever possible.

Dara Fitzgerald – Advanced Analytics Workshop

1. What can attendees expect to learn?

Attendees can expect to gain a greater practical understanding of advanced features in Google Analytics. GA has changed a lot over the last couple of years, with even more releases rolling out continuously. The workshop will provide a solid overview of these recent releases along with providing some useful tips about more traditional features and troubleshooting advice.

2. What is the one thing from your workshop which people will be talking about when they leave?

The ever-growing possibilities with GA.

3. What interested you most about running this workshop at BrightonSEO?

This will be my third time running a workshop at BrightonSEO and each time I am asked I jump at the chance. The attendees are always really engaged and there’s great atmosphere the day before the main conference.

4. If you had to give away one Google Analytics tip, what would it be?

You get out what you put in. GA is a fantastic platform but you need to ensure the tracking is implemented correctly and the data is interpreted correctly to make the most of it.
