Searchmetrics Dashboard To Give You Quick Insights in Search Visibility

Searchmetrics-Essentials

The world of tools is going like crazy at the moment. And for a reason. Tools after all can give you insights which can help you build your brand or product. Our good friend Andy Betts wrote a great piece on that yesterday over at Searchenginewatch.

Searchmetrics is one of the tools which has been popping up everywhere in the past year. Searchmetrics today announces a new feature. They are launching an online dashboard for its Searchmetrics Essentials software with complimentary search and social metrics to anyone. Without an account you can now get information on organic and paid search visibility and visibility on Social Networks. (more…)

The Unofficial URL Shortener Etiquette

Etiquette

Since I set up my own URL shortener (bada.ms) and one for my company (prc.ms), I’ve been thinking a lot about what the proper use of short URLs is. When is it OK to use your own short URLs and when isn’t it?

There’s no official rulebook on how and when to use short URLs, so I thought I’d compile an unofficial short URL etiquette guide. Below are some basic rules that I think we can all agree on, and I welcome your own thoughts and ideas in the comments: (more…)

Tools To Optimize Your Site with Bryan Eisenberg

toolbox

Last year at SMX Stockholm we talked to Bryan Eisenberg who had just launched his new website “Websitetestingtools – The Online Marketers Toolbox”. The website came forth from personal interest, it doesn’t have a commercial purpose.

On the site he calls himself a ‘marketing tool junkie’, and with reason, because he has highlighted over a hundred tools on the site and plans to highlight several more. He describes them, rates them and categorizes them. A great resource.

In cooperation with Bryan we will now be highlighting several tools which he has ‘reviewed’ on his site every month. And we will ask you to give Bryan some tips on tools he should add to his site and off course we want your opinion on the tools! So today we start with some random tools from the site which might be handy for you to use! (more…)

GAConfig: Raventools site Helps Webmasters Set Up Their Analytics

gaconfig

As a webmaster you want to keep track of what happens on your website. One of the best tools to do that is Google Analytics. You can see how many people visit your website and you can track how they got there. But Google Analytics can do a lot more than that. The “problem” however for many webmasters is that they have no idea how to configure their Google Analytics so they can track even more.

Now what you could do is take a course, read a good book or scour the web hoping to find articles about Google Analytics which tell you what to do. I think many webmasters do just that. The people at Raventools must have figured they would help these people get set up. Today they are launching gaconfig.com, a website which helps you set up your analytics configuration. (more…)

Record the Movements of Your Visitors With Mouseflow

big_brother

Last year I wrote about an interesting, and a little bit “Big Brother is watching you” tool on my Dutch blog WebSonic.nl and I thought it might be interesting to also share it here. I’m talking about Mouseflow, a nifty tool I discovered in November thanks to @Anneliesje to easily track visitors on a website.

At first this may not sound that special, but when Mouseflow is special since after it is installed, a visit is actually ‘recorded’, and with that I mean the mouse movements are recorded. This way you can literary track and see what your visitors are doing on the website, were they click, how they move and you can even see when someone is filling in a form (in that case you also know who the otherwise anonymous visitor actually is!). Recordings are available immediately. High Speed Backlink Profile Analysis with QBL

I’ve always been an enthusiastic user of the Yahoo Site Explorer and its free features. Clearly, its shutdown left a big gap that can’t be filled overnight. So where can I get a quick overview of my existing backlink profile from now? There are a few tools on the market to this: Majestic SEO, Open Site Explorer, Openlinkgraph and the new development of Cemper.com: QBL. The Quick Backlink Tool (QBL) is part of the Link Research Tools and it seems like an affordable alternative to me, especially since Christoph Cemper offered some free accounts for State of Search readers! Majestic opens Fresh Index for Free Users

majestic-registered

Six months ago keyword research tool Majestic SEO announced they were “now able to find fresh back links within 24 hours“. That meant they were speeding up things.

Since than a lot has changed and Majestic has become even faster. That results in the announcement by Majestic that they are letting ALL users get full link data for their own sites from Majestics Fresh Index. Until now non-paying users could only get reports for their own sites from the historic index. (more…)

Tool: Downloading Your Tweets with TweetDownload

TweetDownload

It is about time again we highlighted a tool on State of Search. Today we will be looking at a brand new one: TweetDownload. Have you ever had the urge to look back into a twitter conversation and then noted that it wasn’t that easy to do? For starters you have to “read backwards” on Twitter to understand the conversation. And on top of that Twitter only goes back four days.

Things might just get better soon with the launch of “Tweet Download”, a third-party service which lets you back up your Twitter account including tweets, DMs, followers, friends, favorites and the entire conversation. (more…)

majestic-seo-logo-1

Last week at the Searchawards Majestic SEO was voted as being the “tool of the year”. The linkresearchtool however doesn’t stop there, this week at Pubcon they will be announcing a new website as well as a new feature which will please many programmers: OpenApps.

“Majestic OpenApps” is set up to carry the tool further and have others program applications which can work with Majestic. It is also a smart response to the closing of Yahoo Site Explorer. (more…)

Majestic SEO Makes Several Changes To Make Things Easier

site-explorer-majestic

One of the leading tools when it comes to competitor link analysis, Majestic SEO, today announces several changes to their product. Majestic calls it “a bit of a delayed spring clean“. Changes are amongst others improved ability to download ALL your back links and more and clearer navigation inside the tool.

Majestic makes clear that the tool has seen an immense growth in the past six months. Not just in users, but also in amount of data analyzed. To keep a grip on this Majestic merged the Standard Report count and Advanced Report count into one new total, making it a bit clearer to the users. A new figure consisting of the sum of the Standard Report count and Advanced Report count is generated to gain some flexibility. (more…)
