Hreflang Sitemap Tool for Multilanguage & Multinational Websites

hreflang-sitemap-tool

Google have recently added (in May 2012) another method to implement rel=alternate, hreflang=x to appropriately geotarget your websites, allowing you to tell them about your content for different regions and setting the rel=”alternate” hreflang=”x” with an XML sitemap. This is a simpler way of implementing multilanguage and multinational websites as it reduces the amount of development time and page code.

However, when Pete Handley at the Media Flow was asked to implement the hreflang tag on a site containing different versions of content for different countries, he found that there were no tools to help, and the HREFLANG sitemap tool was born…

Majestic SEO Announces Link Tracking Over Time

majestic-seo-logo-1

Launched this week, a new Majestic Link Tracking report brings back tailored reporting and allows you to track link characteristics such as Citation Flow and Trust flow over time for any URL or website.

The new link report is updated daily, which means that you will be able to see a change in the metrics over a period of time, and as always you can export the data into a CSV file. The Majestic SEO blog also suggests that the data is also more accurate when it comes to back links and referring domain counts.

Powerful Stuff and another great addition to the Majestic Toolbox!

Visualize your Site’s Link Graph with NodeXL

I would like to share a recent new tool finding that hopefully can help you to analyze your site’s linking with an easier graphic visualization.

I’m a very visual person and when I get a list like this of a site’s links from Google Webmaster Tools, Screaming Frog or any other crawler I struggle to get the information I usually want as fast as I need: (more…)

Majestic SEO has announced the launch of new functionality ‘Keyword Checker‘. The New Google+ iPad App

google-plus-ipad-app

The new Google+ app for the iPad went live earlier this week. Until now, users had to be content with the limited functionality of the iPhone version, (which has also been updated in time with the iPad release).

First-off the app is designed for the tablet device, therefore the look and feel is by that token more “tabular”. The update stream appears in a grid format, with each update given a visual block of real estate on the screen. (more…)

6 Common SEO Questions and 3 Tools to Answer Them

solutions

With so many tools out there lately it’s difficult to stay up to date to test all of them and identify which SEO problem can they help you to solve –which should be their final purpose after all-.

To help a bit with this here I share 6 common SEO questions and 3 SEO tools -that I have already tested- to answer them easily: (more…)

Be careful of using tools in SEO

computer-tools

At State of Search we get many requests to test and review all kinds of SEO tools. Whether it’s for link building, rank checking or analysing websites. The growth in available SEO tools is enormous and some of them are truly helpful. But tools also create a distance from the stuff that matters. Because they take over a part of the things you normally do manually. Tools can interpret things for you and thus by using tools you could lose the grip on your SEO. I think, if you really want to be a good SEO, you should be as independent from tools as possible. (more…)

Searching in Different Countries Without Proxies

ISearchFrom

As someone living in the Netherlands and as someone who is keeping a close eye on what is changing in the industry and with the search engines I have one big problem: localized search. Google tends to localize your search results based on where you are, which means for me in the Netherlands it is quite difficult to see how State of Search is doing in for example Australia or even closer, Spain or France.

There are tools working on solutions for this problem, because for SEOs who work internationally it is difficult to see where you rank. One tool which looks at just this issue is “I Search From“. Here you can see what results you get from a query in any country in the world, in any language you choose. (more…)

Identify “bad” links with Linkresearchtools Power*Trust update

linkresearchtools-logo-big

The link- and site optimization tools are working very hard on improving their functionalities. After Majestic SEO launching “Flow Metrics” a few weeks ago and Linkdex’ new site crawler yesterday, today we can focus on Linkresearchtools. They launched a new new “Power*Trust update” which lets you identify links that originate from low-trust spam pages.

With the current ‘clean up’ of the Google result pages with updates like Panda and Penguin the need for ‘quality’ links has never been higher. But more importantly: site owners, and especially linkbuilders, want to know if they have any ‘bad’ links pointing to them which could potentially hurt them in the long run. The newest update from linkresearchtools adds 7 new SEO metrics to the tool to determine just that. (more…)

spiders-crawling-istock

It is time for some news on tools again! This time exciting news from the people over at Linkdex. The “SEO Platform” today announces their hot new site crawler comes out of beta.

The new crawler was part of a major update a few weeks ago but is now being ‘opened’ for more than just the happy few who were ‘let in’ earlier. The crawler lets you discover which content you have is under performing.  The feature actually has also been shortlisted for a European Search Award (just like State of Search!) in the category ‘Best SEO Software’. Linkdex Adds Ranking Checks For Baidu, Yandex & more

ranking-set-up-international-search-engines

Every SEO wants to check his rankings. Even though the world of search is changing, rankings still play a big role when it comes to the everyday job of the SEO. Yes, we have Universal Results, yes, Search Plus Your World is playing a huge part in our visibility, but rankings still are an important relative key performance indicator.

And with the ever internationalizing world of search (we can see how important internationalization has become by all the great content coming from the International Search Summit last week for example), we want to know how we do in different part of the world, on different search engines, not just Google.

Linkdex has understood the importance of the combination of the both and has added Baidu, Yandex and Yahoo to the list of search engines you can track your rankings. It has also added language options, which means you can check these search engines in over 35 countries in multiple languages. (more…)
