analytics-seo-demo-time

During the State of Search Tools Week we are doing several demo’s from tools, in this one the presentation demo stage was for Analytics SEO. Laurence O’Tool presented an overview of the best that AnalyticsSEO  has to offer.

After the presentation there was time for Q&A, which you can also listen to in the video below.

After the video there is information about what was said in the Q&A so you can skip directly to the part you find interesting. Below more information on Analytics SEO.

Is Paying for SEO Tools Worth It?

paying-for-tools-featured

I used to be a bit of an SEO tool junkie. Whenever a new tool was announced I’d drop everything and go find out what it did, signup for a free trial or even start paying for it straight away if I was really impressed.

But my life as an SEO didn’t start like this because I didn’t have the money to invest in tools, I built my first website using Notepad and a free FTP program. Even when I started to learn SEO properly and get my sites ranking, it was a while before I could afford to buy a website creator and some spamming link building software. I learnt most of my skills the hard way, I really wanted to take the easy route and let tools do the hard work for me, but I genuinely couldn’t afford to.

Looking back, I think I was making up for lost time when I started signing up for every new tool that came along! I seem to have gone back the other way now as I only use a small amount of SEO tools each and every day.

The fact is, you probably don’t need to pay for SEO tools in order to learn your trade or get results. But in many instances, they can sure make your life a hell of a lot easier and free up your time to work on more interesting tasks. But how do you know when to invest? How much should you invest? How do you know that a subscription is worth keeping?

Hopefully I can help answer some of these questions as part of tools week here on State of Search. (more…)

It’s Tools Week here on State of Search and as such we’re celebrating all those great, informative and handy tools that help make the technical and analytical aspects of our roles that little bit smoother and quicker. I recently posted here about handy Chrome Extensions for SEO, so in this post I thought I’d focus more on web (plus a little software.) (more…)

6 Great Project Management Tools for Improving Agency Efficiency

Project-Management-tools

This post is part of the State of Search Tools Week in which we will be taking an extensive look at Tools in SEO, with posts, demo’s and more.

Background

Over the last two years we’ve tried and tested a stupid amount of different project management tools, both for the design / development side of the business and for our online marketing team. We’ve found that because of the differences in the way that the two departments work (sprints, phased projects and support work vs retainers and consultancy), it’s very difficult to find one tool that fits all. We’ve also found that more technical members of the team respond better to different options. So, having learnt a lot about the features that have helped us to improve our efficiency, I thought I’d write a blog post with my findings.

I’m sure some people will think that trying these tools was a waste of time, however we’ve found that using more advanced tools (that are highly customisable) to improve our processes has helped us to significantly improve our efficiency and output (which ultimately saves us money). (more…)

What is the State of the Tools? Tell us!

State-of-Tools-header

Next week Tools Week starts on State of Search. We will be looking at all sorts of different aspects of tools and we will be looking at specific tools as well.

But we’d also like to know how you think about tools. And to do that we created a survey which will help us understand the “State of the Tools” in SEO. By answering the questions in the survey we will be able to get a nice overview of what the state is, how are ‘we’ using tools and what we want in tools.

Answer this survey (will take you probably about 15 minutes) and we will write you a great overview of what the State of Tools looks like!

Answer the survey below. And spread the word! (more…)

Majestic SEO now Supports 9 Languages

majestic-seo-9-languages

Majestic SEO is now available in 9 Languages:

  •  French,
  • German,
  •  Italian,
  • Chinese,
  • Russian,
  • Polish,
  • Brazilian Portuguese,
  • Spanish…
  • and English

” Developing and maintaining a site if this scale in multiple languages has been an interesting challenge. The first challenge was to rebuild our site architecture to be able to handle language files. We develop too fast to be able to translate every upgrade into 9 languages, so you need to be able to launch nimbly but handle language files independently. Just getting that right was hard.

Next comes a process. Every time we add or change the site, translation files (we call the delta files) build up with anomalies of English fields/words that have changed since we last upgraded the language files. We can then put delta files into the translation process and make this independent if the function development cycle.

It’s quite a process.” – Dixon Jones – Majestic SEO
