Germany & Search: November 2012 Edition

German Flag

Another month comes to an end and therefore it’s time again for “Germany & Search” here on StateOfSearch. We’re now counting the third edition. Again, quite a bit of stuff went down this month. For me, November usually is one of the busiest months of the year – seems to be true for a lot of people as well – especially looking at the content that has been produced, events gone down and status updates being made. So, let’s get right into this. (more…)

UPDATE: Fixed: Google Webmaster Tools Bug Re-verifies Old Accounts

GWT-2

It seems as if there is a bug in Google Webmaster Tools at the moment. Several webmasters were yesterday suddenly seeing sites to which their access was revoked show up again in Google Webmasters. Many of these sites are old sites agencies used to manage.

Others are reporting they are getting notifications that sites from clients they now control have their old agencies or former employees added as a new verified owner.

UPDATE: the issue now seems resolved (see below)

Thanksgiving Day 2012 logo from Google

google_thanksgiving_2010

Today only on the American homepage of Google the company placed a special doodle to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. It’s a quite large logo this time but static, last year Google placed an animated turkey on the homepage. As a visitor you could decorate the turkey (see image on the right) and share the result with friends via a link or on Google+, this was the first time Google used a doodle to promote Google+. Google kept the turkey for 48 hours on the homepage and a copy can be found on this page along with all the other logos used since 1998. (more…)

link-research-tools

Yesterday CEMPER.COM announced that after 3 years of innovation of their tools, they will be stopping link building services as a separate service to new clients and changing focus towards the creation of more Link Research Tools.

We spoke to Christoph C. Cemper about the change of Direction and about the New Link Detox Tools.

“By no means is link building a dead end street, but without the proper knowledge and data, it’s easy to fall for ‘quick cheap link’ scams that can definitely get you in trouble really quick.” Christoph C. Cemper (more…)

Facebook and Yahoo: No, But What If…?

what-if

This weekend suddenly the rumour popped up that Facebook and Yahoo were supposedly talking about creating a search engine, something which also was denied in a later stage. That off course led to a lot of speculation: wass this really true? Would it make sense? What about Bing? And would a combination between Yahoo and Facebook have any chance of succeeding, let alone beating a Google or Bing?

We decided to drop this question on the desks of some industry experts to see how they would feel about this if it were true (which it most probably isn’t). Because we can dream right, dream of a Google competitor. Or not? (more…)

The State of Content Marketing by the ‘new’ Blueglass UK

Last week in London an announcement was made which surprised a few in the search industry but saw many happy smiles. Blueglass, one of US’ hottest agencies announced it was coming to London and to make that work it acquired content marketing agency Quaturo from Kevin Gibbons.

Blueglass intents to give content marketing a boost in the UK, making it more that the ““add-on” to SEO” which many companies feel it is. We’ve interviewed Kevin Gibbons about this move which we will publish later, but first we’d like to share this info graphic from the (new) Blueglass team about, what else, content marketing. (more…)

Google Blocked in China

Great Wall of China

It seems as if Google has been blocked in China at the moment. The news came from The Next Web who talked to a Googlespokesperson, who confirmed the blockade. The Chinese government has apparently blocked Google.com but also other services from Google like Gmail, Google Docs and Google Analytics.

A Google spokesperson told The Next Web “We’ve checked and there’s nothing wrong on our end.”

It seems as if this blockade is not so much against Google but more because of the current political situation in China where in Beijing currently the Party Congress chooses a new president. It seems as if this is more about preventing the Chinese people from searching for things concerning that or from using Google products to work together. (more…)

Mitt Romney Transition Website Found and Caught by Google

romney-intro

Nothing stays hidden anymore in this digital era. If it isn’t someone blogging about you or putting your picture up on Facebook, it’s you yourself who misplaces a direct message on Twitter or who forgets to take something down.

Mitt Romney, who lost the US elections to Barack Obama this week, has experienced this a few times already in the short period of time he has been running for President of the United States. There was the ‘unfortunate’ coincidence where a search for “completely wrong” triggered images from Romney and now the people who built the transition website that should go online when he was elected accidentally put the site live, and as you know he was not elected… On top of that Google’s caught it.
