majestic-seo-logo-1

Last week at the Searchawards Majestic SEO was voted as being the “tool of the year”. The linkresearchtool however doesn’t stop there, this week at Pubcon they will be announcing a new website as well as a new feature which will please many programmers: OpenApps.

“Majestic OpenApps” is set up to carry the tool further and have others program applications which can work with Majestic. It is also a smart response to the closing of Yahoo Site Explorer. (more…)

Update: Google Indexing Facebook Comments. Confirmed by Matt Cutts (Google)

Facebook-comment-Scoble

Update: Google’s Matt Cutts has confirmed that Google is indexing the comments (see below).

Google seems to be indexing Facebook comments which are used on blogs. The Facebook Comments are setup using Javascript and iFrames which usually should prevent it from being indexed. The website Labnol.org however found some comments on TechCrunch which are indeed being indexed.

Some tests show however that not every comment is being indexed. So far we can see that the profiles that are indexed at least have to be open to the public and permit subscriptions. But even then not every comment is indexed. (more…)

Google Now Warning You of Duplicate Content in Webmastertools

Webmaster-Tools-Messages

Google is working on improving Webmastertools. There seems to be more integration with for example Google Analytics and they are delivering more ‘service’ to website owners by handing them information they didn’t ask for.

Yesterday Google announced the latest improvement in that. They are now warning site owners if Google thinks a page is considered to be duplicate content and therefore not showing up in the search results. (more…)

Google Puts A Limit On Google Maps API, Bad News for Travel?

maps-google-london

It looks as if Google is (partly) changing the way they are making money. Where before they made money by advertising or sponsored items in their specific products (think for example the sponsored listings in local), they now are charging for products or usage of API.

Where the launch of the paid version of Google Analytics and the according to some related ssl-issue already gave people some topics to talk about, Google now has announced it will be monetizing yet another one of their products: starting January 1 2012 Google will be putting a limit on the free usage of the Google Maps API. Google-apps-plus

Google today launched a few major updates on Google+ making the service finally available for Google Apps users, which also means that businesses are now able to use it.

At the same time Google launched several new features for Google+. The most important one of those changes is “Google+ Ripples”, which will allow you to see how posts get shared around Google+ in a graphic way. Google also introduces “What’s hot” their own version of trending topics. (more…)

Ouch Google: Random Sites appearing as popups in Google Analytics

google-analytics-privacy-issue-intro

Things at Google are not really going smoothly at the moment so it seems. There is lots of talk about privacy, Google not living up to their mantra (don’t be evil) and they are looked at with a lot of critical sight.

The finding which Col Skinner (aka @SEOSherlock) did and which was ‘broken’ on the 3 Door Digital website by Alex Moss sure will not help. Google seems to have made a huge mistake in Google Analytics which could have major privacy consequences. Clicking on a link in the exit pages overview opens up a random domain. (more…)

Looking for a Taxi in Moscow? Try Yandex

taxi-moscow

I don’t know how many of you have actually been to Moscow before or will go in the near future, but apparently getting a taxi in the Russian capital is a big problem. Waiting takes a long time, at least half an hour.

But there is a solution coming for that issue from a surprising corner: the search engine Yandex. Yandex launched Yandex.Taxi, intended to find taxi’s quickly and reduce the waiting time.

Yandex has made a deal with several Taxi service providers and will be looking at their cars and availability. Yandex.Taxi will then send a booking request to the car nearest to the client. Once confirmed “the client can track their taxi right on the city map.”. (more…)

The video From The New GMail Google Didn’t Want Us to See

Google didn_t want us to see the new GMail...-1

Google is re-designing Gmail. I think many of you might even already have the new design working because you opted in for the beta-version. I know I do. It looks really nice and works pretty nice also.

The redesign however is just part of what Google is planning to do with Gmail. They are adding some features which are not even in the beta version which is currently available.

Last week Google accidentally put a video online introducing the new Gmail. That wasn’t supposed to happen. If look for to the video now you won’t find it. Copies were taken offline on YouTube. Users who had a copy on YouTube were seen as copyright violators. (more…)

Is MC Hammer Going To Change Search?

MC-Hammer-Web-20-summit-2011

In the eighties he was a very successful musician. In the nineties he discovered the Internet and in the first decade of the new century he got successful in “Web 2.0″, the predecessor of Social Media. And now MC Hammer is going after search. Yes. Really.

At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco he introduced “WIREDoo”. A search engine which looks at search in a different way (where have we heard that before?).

With his search engine he says he is not looking for a ‘recreation’ of search, but he feels it can be improved. “You can always make things better”. (more…)

Google is cleaning up: Google kills Buzz and Jaiku, focus on Plus

Google-buzz-canceled-deflated

Google is cleaning up. The online giant is again saying goodbye to several products they developed over the past years. Many of the products came from the illustrious 80/20 rule where Googlers are able to work on projects they thought of themselves for 20% of their time.

Other products are bought products, mainly intended to catch up with some of the developments on the web, like for example one of the products getting killed, Jaiku. In this latest fall-clean up Google has decided to drop some social related products, Buzz and Jaiku for example, to really focus on Google+. (more…)

Be Careful: Google Adwords Phishing Going Around

adwords-phising-intro

Just a quick warning that some people have noticed there are phishing mails out there who are targeting Adwords account owners. In the e-mails (see examples below) the Adwords account owners are warned that their ads have stopped running based on “a number of issues”.

The owners are asked to verify the status of their Adwords accounts and notify Google if the ads do not appear online. When they go online they are led to a place which looks a lot like Adwords where they have to fill in their account details. (more…)
