Google Maps Mobile goes 3D on new Nexus S

So Google did decide to make a follow up on their Nexus One phone. This week Google presented the Google Nexus S, manufactured by Samsung, with the new Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” operating system. Mobile is as important as ever for Google. That clearly shows. But the phone business itself doesn’t seem to be something which Google is really very interested in being in. However, that what’s ON the phone is where Google’s focus lies.

It is therefore interesting to see what Google does when it comes to mobile search, Android and mobile applications. One of them being for example Google Maps on Android. Today and yesterday the D Mobile conference takes place in San Francisco. There Android chief Andy Rubin gave a sneak peak of the new Maps application. And guess what: Google is going 3D. (more…)

Mobile web search on Android is the future? 247% increase in UK says yes

Mobile is hot, hotter, hottest. Everybody wants to be on mobile devices. And numbers show us why. Not just the ‘apps’ on smartphones like the iPhone or Android are booming, mobile search also is. I also find myself using mobile search more often these days. When discussing something at a dinner party and wanting to find out something quickly I often take out my phone and do a quick search. And I am not the only one, if we can believe the whitepaper which was conducted by research firm YouGov for the annual Tamar Search Attitudes report. (more…)

Search is everywhere and the future is search

You can easily say ‘search is everywhere’. And search is much more than just Googling. As Dave Naylor pointed out in a tweet this morning we are now also searching on Twitter or Facebook, making the term “Googling” less relevant every day.

Search goes beyond the standard search engines like Google or Yahoo. Even with Bing entering the battle its not just about ‘regular search’ anymore. Search is more, a lot more. And the future is search. (more…)
