iOS Still Dominates Mobile And Tablet Traffic In UK

internet uk tablet

According to Adobe, 84% of UK traffic via a tablet device went to iOS in February 2013, with 53.5% of UK traffic via mobile phones doing the same.

Tablet and Smartphone internet traffic may favour Android in other countries, but in the UK, Apple still lead the way. According to Adobe, 84% of UK traffic via a tablet device went to iOS in February 2013, with 53.5% of UK traffic via mobile phones doing the same. Of the six countries analysed, Adobe confirmed – unsurprisingly – that iOS and Android completely dominated the market share.

More than 90% of smartphone owners used these operating systems, with iOS the leader in the UK, the US and in France. Blackberry users on the RIM OS accounted for 1.4% of tablet internet traffic in the UK and 4.1 of smartphone traffic – the highest figures recorded out of the countries selected. Google Analytics for Mobile: Where Art Thou?

Analytics App for iPhone

Digital marketing is a very new industry. It is recognised for being dynamic, incredibly face-paced and, some could argue, stays at the forefront of technology and its application to our everyday lives. This causes problems for many of those that consider themselves online (or digital) marketing professionals though.

Put us in a room without a laptop or takeaway our Internet connection and many in-depth conversations that we can have are limited. To a certain degree we’ve become dependent on technology, for our profession, for our livelihoods. (more…)

The Mobile Web vs. Mobile App Choice: Which is better for you?

Mobile Web or Mobile App?

Last week I had the great opportunity to speak at SMX Munich with a presentation called “The Mobile Search Universe“, giving an overview of the different alternatives to create a Mobile presence and how to optimize it to improve its visibility.

One of the most important aspects that I covered during the presentation -and that I want to share in this post specifically, due to its importance- is the Mobile Web vs. Mobile App decision that many businesses are making at the moment. (more…)

Let’s Go Mobile, but Pay Attention

mobile-world-featured

It was nearly two weeks ago that Marin Software released a whitepaper which got some discussions and pens going. The whitepaper “Mobile Search Advertising Around The Globe” showed us some impressive numbers which were repeated over and over on several blogs and at SES London last week as well.

And with reason.

Since 2006 we have been talking about ‘the year of the mobile’ and that was even before there was such a thing as the iPhone, let alone tablets. Marin’s report shows that talking about mobile is one thing, doing mobile is another. Where in 2006 we thought the phone would be the mobile device to focus on, now it is the tablets that have our full attention. And it is clear: there is money to be made on mobile (as if you didn’t know right). (more…)

Mobile SEO Audit Guide

Thanks to a highly anticipated explosion in 2012 and an expected growing trend, mobile is meant to be one of the top priorities for online businesses this year.

Although I’ve already written a guide to get started with mobile SEO and spoke about the main criteria to identify mobile SEO opportunities and specify a strategy, I would like to share the different steps to perform a mobile SEO audit.

The goal of the mobile SEO audit is to provide a full vision of a site present organic mobile activity allowing to give recommendations to improve its mobile search visibility, traffic and conversions. To achieve this goal I divide the mobile SEO audit process in the following phases: (more…)

Mobilisation of the Nation

A4U NEW

Consider the world pre- and post- the mobile phone. Consider what changes have taken place just in your individual usage of that device in your pocket. It’s true that consumer confidence for mobile is growing rapidly, just compare mobile adoption rates to that of the Internet.

With the mobile consumer behaviour evolving faster than the mobile environment, simple enhancements to the mobile purchase journey can see great improvements. We are all aware of this as online marketers, but how do we capitalise on this? Below are some key takeaways from the ‘mobilisation of the nation’ session at A4U Expo in London, 2012.

Decision Making with Google’s New Recommendations

Last week Google finally published an official set of recommendations for building smartphone-optimized sites. The recommendations announcement was written by Pierre Far, who announced them during SMX Advanced and had already commented at SMX London a month ago about how responsive Web design was Google’s recommended option to enable an optimized, mobile targeted site.

Because of the impressive growth of smartphone usage is understandable that Google is focusing on smartphones when giving recommendations, as they have been already doing for a while now by introducing a smartphone googlebot at the end of last year, the mobile playbook and our mobile planet -which are mobile usage statistics and trends sites, focusing on smartphones- and the how to go mobile site -with a guide of good practices and criteria to take into consideration when deciding to enable a mobile version-. Mobile Trends: Search, Apps & Landing Pages

Welcome to SMX Day 2! This was a session that I was looking forward to as the year of Mobile is finally here. It was a great panel with some great takeaways from a stats and best practice perspective.

Andy Atkins-Krueger, Group CEO, WebCertain (@andyatkinskruge)

Andy started the session by saying how important the session was as it’s an area that is big. Mobile broadband is bigger than desktop in some countries. The mobile use segment is also growing rapidly. 33% of mobile is at home particularly in front of the TV. The trends show that mobile is catching PC. Tablet overlap is only 6.6% in the EU. 66% of all mobile traffic is on an Apple device hence Google rolling out the g+ app on Apple first. There is also 87% growth in mobile retail year on year.
