Google News Badges: Google’s Newest Social Data Tool

Google-badges

Google just gave us an insight into some of their next social steps. As said earlier this week, Google is far from done when it comes to social or Google Plus. The ‘project’ goes on and on.

Even though at first sight it might not seem related, the just released Google News badges is a social feature which again has all the signals in it: data and the social connections within content. (more…)

google-plus-wishlist

Google+ is only two weeks young but already people are requesting, no demanding changes to the service. Some forget that the service is still in beta-mode. They claim that the lack of some functionalities could be the reason Google+ won’t be beating Facebook.

Even though Google+ might have a different goal all together, Google also wants to please the users and really build the network. After all, the more users, the more data they get. Well, changes are coming! But what kind of changes? (more…)

Irony at its best: Zuckerberg sets Google+ settings to private

Mark-Zuckerberg-Google+

e all love numbers and we all love to know who is most popular, or at least, who has the most followers, so when the people from Twittercounter built Socialstatistics to measure who has the most followers on Google+ we all dove on it. And we saw that, oh irony, Mark Zuckerberg was the most followed user on Google+.

Well, not anymore. If you go to Socialstatistics now you will see the face you will see on top of many lists of social tools: Robert Scoble. Did he pass Zuckerberg in popularity? Did Zuckerberg leave Google+? No, he didn’t, Zuckerberg isn’t there anymore because he decided to change his privacy settings. His numbers now cannot be read anymore. His profile is still there. Million Euro Google and Heineken deal shows new business directions for Google

google-heineken-make-deal

The Financial Times last week announced that Google and Heineken have struck a million dollar deal. The beer-giant and the search giant will become ad partners.

The deal will mean Heineken will be advertising on different Google properties like YouTube and Mobile ads. The most important part of the deal however is going the other way around: Heineken gets Google’s data.

Heineken will be getting access to databases from Google. They will be able to extract data about the preferences of those watching the ads on Google properties: “where they shop, or what other words they search for on Google.(more…)

An Inside look into Google +

Google + launched last Tuesday. We then discussed the first responses right away on our radioshow. A day after Leo Laporte and his friend from This Week in Google off course also addressed the newly launched Google product. And they (Leo, Jeff Jarvis and Gina Trappani) were joined by none other than Vic Gundotra and Bradley Horowitz from Google who were the most important people behind Google +. You can watch back the entire show below.

Google to take first steps to integrate + into search soon: realtime is gone

realtime-not-found

It has been the buzz of the internet world in the past week, and will most probably continue to be so in the upcoming weeks or even months: Google +. Opinions on the new released Google product differ. And these opinions sometimes differ dramatically. Some people compare it to Google Wave and already have declared it dead before it has even come alive. Others believe Google has finally struck gold when it comes to social.

Most people however believe that this really is it. This is Google’s Social Network, and this is what we will have to work with in the future. But don’t be fooled: Google has just started. And we will see next steps pretty soon. Starting with realtime search, which has disappeared from Google, for now. (more…)

Google + has arrived and pretty much every SEO I know are already on it. Yesterday was probably a complete waste of a day for most SEOs as pretty much everyone was busy playing with Google +. I was no exception. In the words of Matt Cutts: “It’s like crack, but in a good way”. (more…)

Google Take Out: is Google Taking Privacy Serious Now?

Account-overview-settings

The left hand navigation of your Google Profile account when you are editing it has something special to it. Not that you can make your profile as nice as possible, but if you look well, most of the items are related to privacy.

After “Account overview” there is the “Profile and privacy” tab, which lets you change all sorts of privacy settings. In the sidebar you’ll also find ‘connected accounts’ which enables you to look and edit accounts connected to your name. And finally there is the “Data liberation” tab. This option to get all your data out of Google has never been that visible before. Is Google taking privacy more seriously? (more…)

Waiting for a Google+ invite? They’ve closed it for the night: “Insane demand”

intro-shut-down

We are seeing the same pattern as when Google launched Google Wave: people begging, screaming almost for an invite. The invites seemed to have been put out there randomly, even though Google says the original invites were very carefully picked, based on country, language and other distinctions.

Ever since the first invites went out things went crazy. So crazy that Google decided to shut down the invites for the night, because of “Insane Demand”. (more…)

Measure your +1 metrics in WebmasterTools and Analytics

Google-Analytics+

Google + is here, big time. If it will become a success or not, we’ll have to wait and see. But Google doesn’t stop there. It is just the beginning actually.

One of the first things they’ve rolled out after Google+ is the ability for webmasters to track and measure their +1 buttons, both in Analytics as in Webmastertools. Social Engagement has really become the main focus for Google. (more…)

Google’s social network is here, we saw the signals, but will it succeed?

Google+-logo

It’s been buzzing for months, is Google going for the Facebook attack? Are they going to build a new Social Network? And last night they finally did. And even though it looks like a Facebook rip off at first, it really isn’t.

But if it will become successful remains to be seen. The first comments around the web have been different. Some like it, some hate it. I still have to make up my mind, but wanted to share the first thoughts and views on it. (more…)
