Can Enterprise Search Engines Become Successful in Online Search?

enterprise-search-vendors

And now for something completely different. It is not something we talk about often here on State of Search, enterprise search. It after all is a whole different ball game compared to the search engines we discuss here, right? Even though both Google and Microsoft have enterprise search engines you can buy and implement on your own organization, it is not the area you usually connect them with.

And yet it is a big business which is closely related to our business, after all, it is all search ;) . This week I received a copy of a new ebook on enterprise search solutions, published by Pandia. That book takes a look at different enterprise search solutions and compares them. Very useful and it got me thinking. (more…)

We are one year old!!

state_of_search_balloons

Last week we were at SES London 2011. How could you have missed that ;) . A year ago we were also at SES London. The event back then was not only the place where the search industry gathered, it was also the very first time we could show you State of Search!

That said you can ad one and one together and realize that last week the parties at SES were also in a way a birthday party for State of Search. After all, we celebrated our one year anniversary last week! (more…)

New special sections on State of Search: industry, tools and event news

latest_news-3

As you know State of Search wasn’t intended to be a news blog when we started. Slowly but surely however we have been covering more and more news, resulting in our own special News Section. We still are not a ‘real’ news blog, we are still looking for ‘the why and how’ in what is going on in the world of search and social. But we acknowledge that our readers want more, they want news too!

It is now time that we expand our coverage a little: we are next to backgrounds and news about search and social also going to bring you industry news, news about tools and specific event news. (more…)

The battle of the UK blogs

top-votes

In the shadow of the battle between Bing and Google there is another battle going on this week. On the Toprankblog from Lee Odden (we interviewed him about his SES talk last week) UK blogs are battling for a top spot in the list of 35 UK Online Marketing Blogs. And it’s a fierce battle.

I have seen many polls, but this one is a very interesting one. First of all the fierce battle which is going on. Lee promised to do ‘something’ with the top 5, but after a week it is far from sure who will be in that top 5. At this specific moment we take the fifth position, but in an hour we could just as well be 1st or 10th. (We can sure use your vote ;) ).

Second, the amount of high quality blogs on there made me realize how many great blogs there are in Europe. This is only the UK and if you look at the comments, the 35 there clearly aren’t all of them. And Europe off course doesn’t stop at the UK. There are many great blogs in Germany for example and the Spanish, Italians and Dutch are also publishing great content. We are definitely not doing that bad in Europe! (more…)
