event-page

As you know we are covering SES London 2011. We’ve already started doing that with the speakers interviews and you can expect a lot more from us at SES, not just because we do postings, but we will also be trying to broadcast live from SES (if the connection works with us). We’ll be every where, on the radio, on Twitter, on the site. You name it.

SES will be a week in which we will see a lot of extra traffic on State of Search. We’re already doing great, but we’re expecting a lot more in that week. And we’d like to offer you a piece of that pie. And in the mean time you’ll be helping the site produce the best stuff we can give you!

We are offering a special advertisement opportunity during SES London. See below our different options. But the best part of it is: it is cheaper than ever, with a huge discount and you are not “stuck” to it, it’s only for that specific week if you want. (more…)

SES London 2011: Three State of Search bloggers speaking!

SES-London-2011-speakers

At SES London 2011 we will see many familiar faces and many new faces. With that many attendees you are bound to meet somebody new. But also on stage you can really find faces you might or might not know.

The keynote in London will be done, like in New York for example by Former Kodak CMO and author of “The Mirror Test (Amazon)” Jeffrey Hayzlett. We interviewed him for Webmasterradio last year, find the interview here. But there are many more interesting speakers at SES London. We’ll be taking a look at them in the coming weeks. Today, we will look at what lies closest to us: our own bloggers! At SES London you can see three State of Search bloggers on stage. (more…)

SES London: the party is on (Wednesday)

ses-drinks

The first big SES conference of the year and the biggest one in Europe is getting closer and closer: SES London 2011. Which means you will see more and more coverage appearing about that conference right here on State of Search. And remember, you can still win a ticket if you nominate someone or someone nominates YOU for a ticket!

The conference which takes place between the 21st and 25th of February at the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre, in Westminster London, UK will see about 1500 marketers get together to learn about search, social and online marketing strategies. There are many sessions you can attend which are interesting to see, see the program here.

But one of the main reasons you should visit SES is the huge opportunity to network with not only these 1500 marketers, but also to get in touch with the experts in the field. Those who can help you get that step further. And there is no better place to that than in the pub! And that place to be is at the HMS President on the Wednesday 23rd of February. (more…)

SES Berlin 2010: the Search Marketing Toolbox

Last Wednesday I had the honor to speak together with Horst Joepen of Searchmetrics and Thomas Bindl of Refinedlabs in a Search Marketing Toolbox Session at SES Berlin. In this session I covered a few “every day” tools I personally use a lot for different search marketing purposes: keyword research tools, PPC management tools, brand monitoring software, tools for link building, search suites and rank tracking software.

I start with the Google keyword research tools probably everyone knows: the keyword tool, Google Trends and Google Insights for Search. Unfortunately the data you get from Google a lot of times is somehow crippled. I can show you a lot of examples from our Adwords accounts, but luckily enough I found a great example 10 minutes before the session. Just take a look at this graph; a Google Trends comparison on the words SEO, SEM, Suchmaschinenoptimierung and Adwords in Germany: (more…)

SES Berlin 2010: SEO Expert Q&A

Hi everyone – welcome back to the last session of SES Berlin 2010. Wow, time flew by. Can’t believe we’re already having the last session of this year’s SES in Berlin. To finish this SES we do have another Q&A panel talking about everything organic. And again, the setup looks very promising: We do have Marcus Tandler, Johannes Beus, Thomas Promny, Uwe Tippmann and Jens Fauldrath. Moderated, again, by Martin Sinner. Right now we’re still waiting for the attendees to move in, interestingly the room does still look a little empty, would have expect it to be more crowded. But anyways, we do start… (more…)

SES Berlin 2010: Integration of Search Engine Marketing in the Online Marketing Mix

This post is written by Thomas Hertkorn of Ads2people who is guest blogging for us on SES Berlin 2010. Keep an eye on his posts!

Speakers: Marcus Koch, Goldbach Interactive GmbH blue summit
moderated by Thomas Bindl Refined Labs

Here we go again after the break with Marcus Koch speach about the integration of SEM in the Online Marketing Mix. The subject sounds exciting, lets see what happens.

Again the big “last ad tacking” problem will be main subject of this session.

Marcus said it is important for people to be aware of the complete process of a conversion. Not only in the way of search funnels then more in the way of different advertising channels. Everyone should notice that there are correlations between different advertising channels. (more…)

SES Berlin 2010: Duplicate Content Issues

We’re back after the lunch break with another session at SES Berlin – this time covering the various issues around duplicate content. First on is Lutz Ulrich from Google, so let’s see what the “official” version is.

Ulrich starts by showing a DC example on http://www.royal.gov.uk/ (vs. http://www.royal.gov.uk/home.aspx) – so even the British Monarchy seems to have issues – nice! So let’s get on it. Does Google penalize DC? Google says no… if you do it by accident Google doesn’t penalize it! But if you do it on purpose (like doorway pages on various domains or similar) this will get caught and handled “accordingly”. (more…)
