Michael Bonfils outlined an approach when prioritizing international market selection. The wrong approach is to use your analytics to work out which markets to expand to.

The correct approach:

1) Choose your potential markets and list them down the left of a spreadsheet

2) Determine your components and rate each component for each potential market in the spread sheet.

Factors: amount of traffic per country but conversion rate is also vitally important. High bounce rate is an issue that needs to be addressed. Poor conversion and high traffic would mean a lower score. (more…)

Bing’s European boss Cedric Chambaz: “Search is a very personal experience”

Cedric-Chambaz

It is about time we start to take Bing seriously. They’ve reached a market share of 30% in the US, are the only one growing in the UK and just got out of beta in France. Still many in Europe don’t consider them to be a grown up player in the market. Bing’s intent is to change that.

At the head of EMEA Marketing Lead – SMB Advertising for Microsoft Advertising Cedric Chambaz is working on just that. He spoke at the International Search Summit in Munich and will be speaking at SMX London (on the same panel as me by the way, so I am honored!) in May, which is combined with the London version of ISS. We had the opportunity to ask Cedric some questions about Bing, Europe and more. Find his answers below. (more…)

International Search Summit keeps expanding in cooperation with SMX

ISS-intro

One event which has been growing rapidly is the International Search Summit (ISS). The conference originally started of in London but it has been organized in both London, Berlin and Seattle in the past few years. And the organization keeps on expanding. In 2011 they are now joining forces with SMX to give that little extra touch to the conferences. International search has been very much underrated in the big search events. With the combination between ISS and SMX both will win. ISS will reach the bigger audience and SMX will get that valuable information from the International scene.

The International Search Summit is a conference series dedicated to international and multilingual search marketing and brings together some of the leading search marketing experts from around the globe. Conceived and hosted by multilingual web marketing agency WebCertain, it has been running since 2008 and from 2011 WebCertain is partnering with SMX to run the Summit at SMX events across Europe and North America.

The show will this year be organized in San José, Munich, London, Seattle and New York. (more…)
