Dixon Jones – MajesticSEO and Steve Brown of ShareMyPlaylists
It’s the “doing it in your bedroom session”, is Dixon’s opener. (Cool!)
Dixon hands over to Steve, who tells us he will be talking about ShareMyPlaylists (SMP) and how it achieved such quick and early success.
Steve is co-founder of Buy.at and is now advising and working with Kieron Donoghue as Director of SMP.
SMP – launched March 2009, focused on Spotify, enabling users to discover and share, so adding an additional social dimension to Spotify.
Launch budget was precisely nil.
Today received 300k uniques per month.
Panel – Richard Baxter of SEOGadget, Jonathan Stewart of ReviewCentre and Will Critchlow of Distilled.
Richard steps into Jon Myer’s shoes to help moderate as well as speak, so starts with the intro:
Information types are understood by humans in a certain way. Address formats, time and date formats are instantly recognisable to us. Not so for machines. Micro Formats, therefore, mark up code in such a way to make such data types instantly recognisable as that type – to be thus understood and presented in a more useful way.
Rich shows us an example of marked up html using hCard – which is used for understanding address data. (more…)
It’s all about winning not losing
Sam Crocker from Distilled is my first presentation of the day, and it’s most definitely a winner. Sam is talking about focusing on going beyond just protecting your site, and thinking about getting on the offensive.
Some initial explanations of what this means. Think about looking at static vs dynamic. It’s not just about letting information come to you, go out and hunt down information that can help you and your site. e.g.
Ralph, better known as Fantomaster’s presentation is based on his own self-constructed link network, baptised Link Whisperer. So why should you do it? The simple answer:
You get 100% control over your in-links, which then allows you to fine tune your web campaigns and boosts your ranking potential.
Setting up a link network is not that complicated. Setting up a strategy for it is the difficult part. Without decent content, all link building campaigns will fail anyway. (more…)
This is a post describing the presentation done by Richard Baxter at A4U Expo London 2010
What is Information Architecture?
This can be explained by the ability to ensure users and crawlers can traverse to the lowest tier of content on your website. This is important because it gives you the ability to flow authority down into your pages.
This is because often the lowest level of content gets starved of link juice/page rank which restricts its ability to rank for a range of keywords. AND since longer tail keyphrases are more liekly to convert it is very valuable to look at this.
It always ensures people are on the edge of seats when the beginning of a session comes with disclaimer
- THIS IS ILLEGAL
So read on but remeber you have been warned….
*LIVE BLOGGING can result in some mistakes, however there is no money back guarantee and the reason it is slightly late is my watch is slow.
It is always great seeing @davenaylor speak – every time I see him you can really see his passion for search. His approach is so analytical and precise, everything is thought out, analysed and push forward. Or as he says himself “Monitored, tracked and tweaked” Here he covers the 3 elements of SEO; Technical, On Page and Off Page.
Dave started by saying “sites always need improvement” which is great news for our jobs…
