Making The Long Tail Wag

“Making The Long Tail Wag” at this years A4U Expo was a solo session by Owen Hewitson, Client Strategist at Affiliate Window.

Owen’s presentation was aimed at those merchants who may not realise the benefits of having affiliates who, even though they may not drive the most traffic to the merchant’s site, are still able to contribute to revenue via long tail searches and conversions.  Taking Amazon as an example, Owen argues that if you sell thousands of products, demand for any one of them is never zero so even those affiliates that make you one or two sales per year have their worth. Affiliates who pick up long tail traffic also help the merchant: (more…)

SEO Tactics to tame the Panda

panda-battle

Daniel Bianchini who is a Senior SEO consultant at SEOptimise started with an update about Panda. Since Panda has rolled out in February but has run 5 times since February. He doesn’t foresee the end of Panda any time soon. He actually predicts a lot more Panda slaps in the future.

Google suggests evaluating all the content on your site and removing or moving all low quality content. Improving all the quality of pages across the site is also advised. Really good actions to evaluate low quality content involve analysing bounce and exit rate. Ask the question if people actually read this, is the content up to date? Is the content factually good content, is it stylistically correct? It’s is a factor of overall domain authority so it’s worth getting it right. Google has 23 quality questions that help to evaluate your content. Set this up as a survey and see what your visitors think. (more…)

The Future of SEO

future-of-seo-panel-a4u

Today I want to walk you through and talk you through some of the interesting conversations that emerged from a panel comprised almost entirely of State of Search bloggers on Monday at a4uexpo in Munich! I joined up with Martijn, Roy, and Kelvin to discuss what the future of SEO may look like and what’s in store over the next few years.

This is not an exhaustive look nor is it necessarily reflective of what the future will look like for SEO because hey, as I’m sure Harold Camping can attest, we can’t predict the future. However, I’m going to do my best to summarise here the different viewpoints from the panel as well as the audience so please feel free to disagree, even I disagree with some of the predictions but we’ve all used our experience to try and figure out what is in the future of our quickly maturing industry.
