It’s the bloggers who really make this blog, they provide the great content after all. Therefore I’d like to pay some attention to the bloggers in these last few days of the year. See what they wrote, look at how their year was and what their expectations are. A digital thank you for their work.
Today it’s “Dutchy” day. We had Evert Veldhuijzen this morning and this afternoon its time for the other one living in Holland: Jeroen van Eck. Jeroen is one of these rough diamants. A highly talented young Dutch SEO who also knows how to listen and improve himself with every post. And he already writes great posts!
A few questions
I asked Jeroen the same a couple of questions as the others about 2010 and 2011:
What was your highlight of 2010?
Personally, my highlight was moving into our new house, our first house. On work-level I would say the way we built our SEO department within our company. I think we did a really good job in becoming a very knowledgeable company in a short time span. The growth in knowledge, projects and people is something to be proud of and hopefully we can continue this growth in the next years.
What was the thing you least liked of 2010?
There wasn’t too much I didn’t like in the past year. Maybe some projects we would have liked to get but just missed. Luckily we got some other projects with some great challenges. In the world of search there were some developments which I would have liked to be different. I was really hopeful that Bing would become a competitor of Google this year, but their European (or non-US) strategy really blows. They developed some great functionalities but we can’t use them. Hopefully this changes in 2011.
What was your best post on State of Search in 2010?
According to the reactions and retweets, I would say “Google universal ranking factors: an overview of resources“. It was something that originated as a need for myself, but I think it was helpful for others as well. I guess I am going to have to update it next year .
What are your expectations for 2011?
I expect a good year. Within our company we are going to focus on more than search alone. We are trying to support our clients more from an strategic online marketing point of view. We notice that many companies don’t have a clear online strategy and see SEO as a solution to all their problems. We want to take a step back and focus on the online opportunities for each companies. This comes with some interesting challenges which are going to be very important for us.
As I said Jeroen keeps making better and better posts his latest post “What Bing needs to bring to the table in 2011” proofs that, its a great one. But he has been writing on a high level for a long time. “AJAX and SEO, will they ever be united?” has been gold and “301 redirects: not so good for SEO after all?” is one of those great posts which SEOs love so much.
Jeroen, I love your enthusiasm and your posts show great knowledge. You are an example for you SEO bloggers! Thank you for all your efforts this year!
