Friday Talk: Whiteboard Takeover – Branded SEO for Page 1 Domination (Sam Stratton and Mike Essex)

A very special Friday Talk this week. We all know the SEOMoz Whiteboard talks. This week that was ‘taken over’ by the Koozai team who do their own whiteboard talks. In this one however they really do it “the Moz-way”. They talk about Page 1 domination on branding, something which will become more and more important.

State of Search Readers Like to Read at Lunchtime

when do you like to read posts

At State of Search we want to keep developing, so we try to improve the site wherever we can. And to do that we try and find out what the readers like best. So we try and ask you some questions. Last week we asked you on Facebook at what time they preferred reading posts.

It turns out that most people like lunchtime as the best time to read posts, followed by “whenever I have time”. An important factor in when people read posts is the title of the post. If the title triggers enough it doesn’t matter at what time the post is published or sent out into the social atmosphere. You can find the results of the poll below, as well as a link to our newest poll: How do you usually get alerted to a post? (more…)

Is MC Hammer Going To Change Search?

MC-Hammer-Web-20-summit-2011

In the eighties he was a very successful musician. In the nineties he discovered the Internet and in the first decade of the new century he got successful in “Web 2.0″, the predecessor of Social Media. And now MC Hammer is going after search. Yes. Really.

At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco he introduced “WIREDoo”. A search engine which looks at search in a different way (where have we heard that before?).

With his search engine he says he is not looking for a ‘recreation’ of search, but he feels it can be improved. “You can always make things better”. (more…)

Dave Naylor and Dom Hodgson at A4U Expo London 2011

Sometimes there are interviews you don’t have to ask any question. The people being interviewed will simply make the talk themselves. If you put Dave Naylor (Bronco) and Dom Hodgson (organizer of Thinkvisibility) on a couch at A4U Expo you know success is guaranteed: a combination of fun, laughter and actual good content.

Be warned: because of the background noice the audio isn’t always that well. All I can say is: enjoy!

The State of The Search Engines: Google vs Bing vs Yahoo

searchengines-infographic-intro

There were days in which we could actually talk about a “War on Search Engines”. Google was fighting the likes of Yahoo, Altavista, MSN and even Ask for the trust of the users. We can now easily say Google has won that war. They are the biggest one out there.

At least, they are for now. Google knows they shouldn’t sit still and wait and see what will happen. They have to keep developing and make things better, otherwise others will happily take their position. Even though the ‘war is over’ it is nice to take a bit of a closer look at these market share differences, where they lie and where to come from. (more…)
