Educators-Pinterest-intro

Pinterest has many reasons for existing. First of all it’s a bookmarking service, second of all its fun and we all know marketers have found it a very interesting tool while some think its great for SEO (not everyone agrees there).

But Pinterest can be used for a lot more things. For example for education. Education? Yes indeed. This infographic shows us just how educators use Pinterest. (more…)

How To Update Your G+ Profile And Business Page To The New Lay Out

Update-profile-page-intro

With the new Google+ design which was launched yesterday we have another profile page which we need to update to keep people who looked at our pages interested.

Updating your page so you are making full use of the new design is not that difficult. I decided with the laptop on the lap (as it is supposed to ;) ) to update my personal profile and the State of Search business page into the new design so it would look more attractive to those visiting my profile, or the State of Search business page. To give you an idea of what you can do to optimize your pages I have described the steps below, just like when I updated the Facebook page. A practical guide, but with some handy tips to make it more profitable for you and your business. It’s time to get to work (again)! (more…)

Google+ Making Major Changes to Design

Google+-change-Alex-3

Google just announced a major redesign for Google+. The Google+ pages now look a lot more like for example Facebook.

There is a major focus on the new navigation which is much more focussed on ease for the user. Google says:

One of the first things you’ll notice is a new way to get around the stream. Instead of static icons at the top, there’s a dynamic ribbon of applications on the left. This approach comes with lots of perks, but some of our favorites include:

- You can drag apps up or down to create the order you want
- You can hover over certain apps to reveal a set of quick actions
- You can show or hide apps by moving them in and out of “More” (more…)

Jon Stewart Puts Google Project Glass and Instagram In Perspective, So Should We

bubbles-istock-bought-resized

First of all: hat tip for Danny Sullivan for pointing this video out on Marketingland. I could just point you there but I wanted as many people as possible and it is a nice set up for some thoughts on the topics.

First of all the video itself, it is an extract of the Daily Show from Jon Stewart yesterday. He there talks about the announcement by Google of Project Glass last week and the acquisition of Instagram by Facebook. To say the least Stewart is sceptic about both topics. And as we are used from Stewart he brings that with the necessary humor. (more…)

Yahoo To Be Operating in Three Groups Says CEO

valkuil-game

After the 2,000 lay offs last week at Yahoo it was just a matter of time before more clearness would come regarding the future of Yahoo!. Today Kara Swisher got hold of an internal e-mail sent by Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson which explains where Yahoo is going: three primary divisions.

The memo was sent today to all Yahoo employees and shows that Yahoo is not being sold to any company but is simply restructuring and refocussing. The memo also makes clear that search is not a focus on Yahoo anymore, but that is nothing new. (more…)

Do We Need A Social Networking Bill of Rights?

Social-Networking-Bill-of-Rights-intro

When it comes to Social Media there is a lot of talk about privacy: what are the boundaries, how far can we go? Can employers base their judgements on what we publish online? Can companies just connect all sorts of different data?

The website backgroundcheck.org feels it might be time for some rules on this. Not just ‘any’ rules though, an actual ‘Bill of Rights’. They made this infographic to explain… What do you think, do we need a social networking Bill of Rights? (more…)

Google Project Glass: Does It Really Work?

project-glass

Last week Google announced Project Glass, as Searchengineland called it, “Google’s answer to Siri”. To be really honest, when I first saw it I was for a second tempted to think it was belated April Fools joke, after all, there were so many (we collected them on Facebook) by Google again this year.

But it seems to be true. It however also is far from done. The glasses aren’t yet actually functioning. We cannot buy or use them yet. Still there are some videos out there which give us some insights. Not just the one from Google, but others.

A Dutch newspaper website collected the videos below to show what could happen. Parodies on Project Glass… Enjoy! (more…)

social-vs-search-infographic-intro

Which one is better: Social or Search? To be honest, it is not a fair question. Maybe we should even say they don’t compare or they need to go together.

Still MDG Advertising thinks it is interesting to compare them, to see how they ‘weigh in’. And they are right, it is interesting. Which one is better for lead generation, what is better for brand awareness, local visibility or interactivity? All elements looked at in the infographic below.

And the winner is… (more…)
