Video SEO for WordPress Just Became Really Easy

Here on State of Search we have been using WordPress from the start and we have also from the start been using a few of Joost de Valk’s plugins, including his most famous one, the WordPress SEO plugin. Until now all these plugins were free to use. Recently Joost (who for some is better known under the name “Yoast“), launched his first paid plugin: Video SEO for WordPress.

I was fortunate enough to be able to test in the past few weeks in which as it turned out it had some extra use on an unexpected successful post on State of Search. Find below my review of the plugin. (more…)

Manchester United most visible in Search, Chelsea most Social

In a week in which there is a lot of Champions League Football taking place it is always nice to build a bridge between two completely different industries. And that is exactly what Searchmetrics decided to do when they started their research to find out which Premier League team is most visible in Google.co.uk and which team has the most social mentions.

The results are interesting. As you will see further down in this post the ‘League Table’ has a slightly different look than the one which shows the rankings of the ‘real’ Premier League. A few teams however rank well on all tables: Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal do well online, where Arsenal needs to catch up in points in the real Premier League. The best social platform to be visible on seems to be Facebook. (more…)

Google Authorship Profiles: No Verification Needed?

Google and authority. It clearly is going to play a larger role in the search result pages in the coming months. Where your average search page used to be ‘just 10 blue links’ and Universal Search already brought images and videos to the search results pages, the rel=author is bringing the authority to the result pages.

To help webmasters get the profiles of their authors visible in the search results Google created what is called the “rel=author tag” which allows webmasters to tell Google who is the author of the page.

For the author snippet and image to show up the “rel=author tag” should be implemented properly. It however now seems that Google can figure all that out themselves. A guest poster got linked to a post without verification.  (more…)

2000 posts on State of Search: Did you know…?

Can you believe this, we started in February 2011 as a side project, a place where a few of us could ‘drop’ the content they wanted and now, in October 2012, State of Search is not only an award winning blog, it has reached the impressive number of 2000 blogposts. 2000!

Most of the 2000 posts are also not just any post, they are high quality content, content which helps the reader forward, helps the reader understand and helps the reader get a grip on their search and social strategies.

With now an actual editorial team in place and a total of 34 bloggers and counting this blog really has become a website to keep an eye on!
